Position Summary
Additive manufacturing (AM) is a transformational technology for fabricating complex metallic shapes directly from 3-D digital models, requiring minimal post-fabrication finishing steps. AM advantages over traditional manufacturing include cost and material savings, as well as the ability to fabricate parts containing features unobtainable through other means. The relationships between the AM process parameters and the resulting structural properties including fatigue performance, remain unknown. This opportunity focuses on understanding process/product relationships in AM parts, explicitly focusing on fatigue (both high and low cycle) and fracture via a novel energy-based testing framework we developed during the past 30 years. We seek a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher with expertise in fatigue, fracture, and associated experimental assessment methodologies. The primary focus of this position is on performing fatigue ( HCF, LCF, and HCF/ LCF interaction) testing. A secondary focus is on the subsequent testing, characterization, and modeling using our world-class mechanical testing facility, supported by robust materials modeling expertise and capabilities ( ANSYS, ABAQUS, and Topology Optimization in MATLAB).

  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python )
Preferred Qualifications Required License / Registration / Certification Physical Requirements Ability to communicate Area of Specialty Expertise in fatigue, fracture, and associated experimental assessment methodologies. Security Sensitive This is a security sensitive position. EEO Statement
