Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:Duties assigned to this title will require an in-depth knowledge of a specialized field, process, or discipline and may involve organizing and implementing complex research plans, the development of methods of research, testing and data collection, analysis and evaluation, and writing reports containing descriptive, analytical and evaluative content. The duties will require the exercise of independent discretion and judgment in carrying out research activities within the predetermined research scope and methodology.
This is a Grant Funded position.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will work on projects related to external grants funded to the Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice at Texas Southern University. The topics of focus are listed below.Climate, Energy and Environmental Justice: This project area of focus will examine environmental justice and climate-related impacts in vulnerable impacted communities. The fellow will conduct qualitative and quantitative research, including research design, field work, community interviews, data analysis, video stories, and development of the narrative. The fellow will travel to the research site as necessary with other members of the research team and participate in research team meetings and activities. Outputs will include white papers, journal publications, conference presentations and multi-media products.

Hiring Range:Commensurate with experience.
Education:Ph.D in Urban Planning, Epidemiology, Environmental Science, or related fields.
Required Licensing/Certification:Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of:
- Strong research knowledge in environmental and climate justice
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Technical writing and research publication experience
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and computational skills are a plus
- An interest in policy impacts is a plus
- Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications
- Problem-solving and decision-making
- Multitasking and time management.
- Both verbal and written communication
- Prepare detailed reports
- Work independently
- Communicate effectively with a diverse group of people
- Interdisciplinary research experience at the nexus of environmental justice, transportation equity, climate change, food insecurity, and heat island effects, green space justice, and natural disasters.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Experienced creator of digital environmental and multi-media products.
- Demonstrated qualitative research experience.
- Bilingual skills would be helpful.
- Demonstrated ability to translate academic research into useable tools and metrics for decision-makers preferred.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups which include community groups, elected officials, policymakers, non-profit groups, etc. preferred.
- Experience working on interdisciplinary teams and/or community-based research projects preferred.
- Limited standing and/or walking.
- Handling light weight objects.
- Using or carrying equipment.
- Stoop, bend or lift.
