Duties and Responsibilities
The Smith Research Laboratory at Bowie State University (Bowie, Maryland) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scholar with expertise in Organic Synthesis and Chemical Biology. The Smith Research group is interested in the synthesis of small molecules to investigate biological problems such as drug-resistant cancers and blood-brain barrier transport. The research group has a strong synthetic chemistry foundation with applications in cellular biology and fluorescence spectroscopy. We are housed in the Center for Natural Science, Math and Nursing with state-of-the art facilities and equipment. We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who are willing to bring cutting-edge research to a growing HBCU!
The ideal candidate will:
- Conduct multi-scale synthesis of small molecules including peptides, nucleotides, lipids, etc.
- Operate and maintain NMR, IR, MS, HPLC instrumentation
- Conduct conjugate synthesis, purification and characterization
- Present research findings at regular group meetings, as well as local and national conferences
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals
Minimum Qualifications
Education
PhD in organic chemistry, chemical biology, or related field preferred.
Experience
1-2 years of experience preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in Organic Synthesis and small molecule purification and characterization (NMR, IR, MS) is required. Experience with HPLC, antibody-drug conjugate and spectroscopic methods (UV, fluorescence, etc.) is preferred. Proficiency in experimental design, data analysis and data storage are required. The successful candidates must be capable of independent work and possess strong written and oral communication skills.
Conditions of Employment
This is an in-person full-time position which includes: 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday and weekend availability. Ability to commute/relocate are required.
