Position Summary
Seeking a highly-motivated Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Carol Witczak in the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology & Physiology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. The goal of the Witczak Lab is to identify the molecular and cellular mechanisms that control skeletal muscle glucose and protein metabolism. The selected candidate will participate in a team working with mouse models of type 2 diabetes or exercise, surgical techniques to alter gene expression or muscle size, radioactive and non-radioactive metabolic tracer studies, as well as a variety of biochemical and molecular biology assays (e.g. immunoblots, PCR, enzyme activity, etc.). The ideal person will be curious, and able to work independently, but also in close consultation with the Principal Investigator as well as other laboratory personnel.
Duties and responsibilities:
Develop and conduct scientific research experiments with mouse models, initially with supervision and then progressively towards independent work. These experiments will include but are not limited to:
- Conventional PCR genotyping and mouse colony management
- Mammalian cell culture
- In vivo glycemic and metabolic experiments Ex vivo muscle metabolic assays
RT-PCR, immunoblots, immunoprecipitation, kinase activity assays
- Accurately document research findings for use in scientific publications and grant submission
- Participate in the writing of scientific publications and grant submissions
- Participate in research group meetings within the Indiana University School of Medicine

Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree is required.
Minimum Education: PhD degree in physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, exercise science or a related field from an accredited institution.
Minimum Experience: 4 years of general biomedical laboratory experience (e.g. chemical buffer preparation, pipetting, etc) in a basic science research laboratory plus prior rodent handling experience.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: Excellent organization skills, have the ability to work well with others as well as independently, be reliable, and be able to work safely with good laboratory practices.

Additional Qualifications
Experience with mouse surgeries, and basic molecular biology assays are highly preferred.
Applicant must be hard working, highly motivated, well organized, and able to work independently and in a small group setting.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and keep detailed records.
