The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as a Portfolio Manager in the Real Estate unit.
The Real Estate units' primary objective is to provide stable cash flow and generate an enhanced yield while providing total fund diversification and an inflation hedge. Real Estate partners with best-in-class managers with common goals to create a portfolio of high quality assets. The portfolio includes allocations to core, value add and opportunistic risk strategies across property types globally.Under the general direction of the Director of Real Estate, the Portfolio Manager provides investment recommendations and portfolio/asset management expertise as it pertains to a Real Estate investments. The Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing, developing, and implementing a subset of the Real Estate portfolio that focuses on monitoring the overall portfolio leverage. This position requires the highest degree of independence, confidentiality, and discretionary judgment.The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Broad and extensive experience in investments, specifically within Real Estate markets; including experience with Real Estate debt and lending.
- Experience providing investment recommendations and portfolio/asset management expertise.
- Strong understanding of Real Estate debt and equity investing.
- Knowledge of market conditions, methods and principles used in appraisals, acquisitions, dispositions, financing, leasing, and managing real property.
- Ability to manage and build new strategic relationships and partnerships with banks and other institutional lenders.
- Ability to lead, coach, mentor or train a team.
- Ability to collaborate with CalSTRS senior management to implement Investment Branch strategic initiatives.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal employees and external parties.
- Ability to adapt to changes in priorities, assignments, and other interruptions which may impact pre-established timelines and courses of action.
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of initiative, professionalism, confidentiality, and ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
An incumbent who possesses a professional certification in one of the following designations: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analysts (CAIA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential. Only one 5% base pay differential is eligible regardless of the number of certifications.
This position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 125% of base salary.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14,334.00 - $21,500.00 per month
