Selected candidates' duties include repair and maintenance of electrical systems, heavy mobile equipment, vehicles, and machinery. railroad systems, electrical systems, buildings, etc.
Will also be required to operate equipment. Performance of these duties requires the ability to safely stand, climb, bend, stoop, walk, push, pull, and lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds and work outdoors and around the waterfront.
The position is in a Career Progression Group and may be filled at the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd level, depending upon experience.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in building construction trades, building maintenance, or in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of water vessels, movable bridges, or other equipment such as heavy, mobile, mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in building construction trades, building maintenance, or in the operation, maintenance and/or repair of water vessels, movable bridges, or other equipment such as heavy, mobile, mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on a month for month basis.
NOTE:
Custodial building maintenance is not qualifying.
Examples of building construction trades include cabinetmaker, carpenter, concrete finisher, electrician, HVAC controls technician, HVAC mechanic, ironworker, millwright, painter, pipefitter, plasterer, plumber, refrigeration mechanic, roofer, sheet metal worker, steamfitter, tile setter and welder.
Examples of building maintenance include Maintenance Repairer 1/2, B/G/E Maintenance Repairer 1/2 and Maintenance Repair Foreman.
Examples of repair/maintenance of mechanical equipment include Operating Engineer 1/2, auto mechanic, Mobile Equipment Maintenance Mechanic, Mobile Equipment Overhaul Mechanic and Mobile Equipment Master Mechanic.

FUNCTION OF WORK:
To perform advanced level duties in the repair and maintenance of Port office buildings, properties, facilities, docks, railroads, transit sheds, grounds, and appliances and to operate and maintain the mobile equipment used in these maintenance operations.

Direct from Port Facility Maintenance Foreman.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 2 by independently operating equipment and machinery and performing maintenance tasks.
Differs from Port Facility Maintenance Foreman by the absence of full supervisory responsibility over a crew of Port Facility Maintenance Specialists.

Operates equipment used at the Port's facilities such as dump trucks, bush hog tractor, forklifts, dozers, belts, stacker, conveyors, and front-end loaders used in the maintenance of the Port's office buildings, properties, facilities, docks, railroads, transit sheds, and grounds.
Pulls and installs crossties and repairs railroad tracks when needed.
Re-rails railcars that have derailed.
Required to work around waterfront including cargo-handling areas where ships are being loaded and railcars and trucks are being unloaded.
Makes minor repairs to equipment and performs user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order.
May oversee lower level workers and assist in training new employees.
Assists in tasks such as grass cutting, shoveling, minor carpentry, welding, or plumbing repairs and general upkeep of the grounds and facility.
