This position is responsible for the swimming pool, hot tub, wellness room, building and equipment maintenance, and custodial needs of the OHSU Student Center on the Marquam Hill Campus. Current duties include operation and maintenance of the swimming pool and hot tub as well as student activities equipment, products and processes. In addition, this position serves as the building liaison to the Facilities Department, Environmental Health and Safety and Multnomah County Health Inspector on all maintenance and building inspection-related matters. Additional duties of this position include monitoring operations and cleanliness of the Student Lounge in the Robertson Life Science Building (RLSB) on the South Waterfront, and serving as the space liaison to CBRE, the real estate management company for the RLSB.
Function/Duties of Position
Pool Operator
  • Operation and maintenance of chemical injection equipment including chemical
    tank supply levels, and ordering and restocking chemicals, reagents and supplies;
  • Maintenance of pool and hot tub chemical levels including daily chemical report
    and chemical readings;
  • Operation and maintenance of pool and hot tub filtration system including water
    levels, backwash activities, pump maintenance and minor plumbing repairs;
  • Operation of climate control systems (dryatron unit) related to natatorium;
  • Super chlorinate or shock treat pool and hot tub as necessary;
  • Completion of all state-required documentation;
  • Maintenance of pool and hot tub piping and equipment including probe
    installation;
  • Vacuum pool and hot tub weekly;
  • Sanitize and clean pool deck weekly;
  • Monitor water temperatures and water consumption daily;
  • Maintenance and cleaning of pool and hot tub surfaces, windows, deck, and bright
    work - stainless steel;
  • Make capital improvement recommendations;
  • Meet with Multnomah Co. Dept. of Public Health inspector quarterly and verify
    testing results;
  • Maintain personal protective equipment and participate in annual fit testing;
  • Operation and maintenance of chemical eyewash/safety showers

Custodial
  • Open facility for daily operation including turning on lights;
  • Dust mop gymnasium daily;
  • Monitor cleanliness of locker rooms and upstairs restrooms including sanitizing
    shower and toilet room floors, toilets, and sinks. Report problems or concerns to
    Custodial Services Manager. Assist with refilling paper towel, toilet paper, soap,
    and tampon dispensers;
  • Monitor cleanliness of pool restroom daily including: sanitizing and cleaning floor,
    toilets, and sinks. Report problems or concerns to Custodial Services Manager.
    Assist with refilling paper towel, toilet paper, and soap dispensers;
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of custodial supplies including soap, paper
    products, etc.;
  • Empty trash and recycling;
  • Vacuum carpets including locker room, hallway, staircases, area rugs and offices;
  • Clean tables in lobby;
  • Dust throughout facility;
  • Wash windows and mirrors throughout facility;
  • Clean and defrost refrigerators; clean microwaves;
  • Monitor cleanliness of Food Resource Center (FRC) including behind counter and
    adjacent supply room. Report problems or concerns to Food Resource Center
    manager.
  • Sweep or dust mop media room floor and organize chairs and ottomans as
    necessary;
  • Polish media room floor as necessary;
  • Day porter activities such as spill cleanup, maintaining adequate linen supplies to
    members and guests;
  • Schedule contracted cleaning for area rugs and furniture, and make contracted
    cleaning recommendations as necessary;

Maintenance
  • Meet with City of Portland Fire Marshal and Environmental Health & Safety
    Representative during building inspections.
  • Replacement of light bulbs in and outside of building, including lights that require
    operation of high lift equipment
  • Operation and maintenance of laundry equipment located in the Student Center;
  • Operation and maintenance of tenant specific equipment such as: in-house
    security and monitoring equipment; battery test and replacement and
    documentation on crash bar alarms for exit doors; locker room equipment and
    lockers; clocks; timers; sports and exercise equipment, swimming pool ADA chair
    lift as well as storage equipment;
  • Pressure wash throughout facility and adjacent sidewalks, patios, deck as
    necessary;
  • Operation and maintenance of pressure washing equipment used for general
    cleaning in and outside of building;
  • Operation of comfort controls such as thermostats and humidity controls in
    building;
  • Maintenance of outside drain(s);

Float
  • Assist front desk staff with laundry services;
  • Provides relief for front desk personnel during breaks and staffing shortages;
  • Help with special event prep as needed including moving tables, chairs, placing
    tarps on gymnasium floor;
  • Assist with special projects as needed.

Misc
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma
  • 1-2 years professional experience as a Pool Operator or in a related field
  • Highly motivated self-starter with positiveattitude and ability to work as part of a team; Outstanding customer service skills andability to work well independently as well as with supervisors, co-workers, and customers; strong time management and communication skills;
  • Knowledge of Multnomah County rules and codes pertaining to pool facilities; must be proficient with basic computer skills; knowledge and demonstration of ability to safely use and operate hand and power tools;
  • Knowledge in general maintenance, plumbing, carpentry and electrical skills; and knowledge of fitness equipment; Working knowledge of POS system and cash handling experience.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) license (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire); Ladder safety training: first aid and CPR
  • Aerial Work Platform training; and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) training (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Compliance with Code of Conduct, Respect in the workplace and Applicable policies, procedures and agreements related to position, department or OHSU as a whole
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of related work experience
  • Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) License

Additional Details
Salary Range: $24.62 - $33.28 per hour
  • Work hours are Monday through Friday with occasional weekends/holidays work depending on mechanical issues, needs, and projects. This position is located in the Student Center on Marquam Hill Campus and the employee is required to make regular trips to the Robertson Life Sciences Building on the South Waterfront to monitor the Graduate Lounge on the 4th floor. This position is responsible for monitoring projects during maintenance closures; maintaining a safe, clean and orderly work environment; and assisting with special projects as assigned.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. for 50 feet; ability to stand for four continuous hours.
