JOB SUMMARY
To facilitate the proper usage of water activities, by members and guests, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment. To be fully aware of the pool schedule, rules, and overall program information and how to present that information appropriately.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions

Ensure safety of members and guests
- Maintain constant awareness of entire pool and pool deck area. This is demonstrated by proactively engaging with members & guests, ensuring that members & guests are using the pools & pool equipment correctly, & initiating emergency response system when appropriate.
- Ensure health and safety standards are maintained by enforcing the pool rules with tact and diligence.
- Understand the pool schedules and the Pool Attendant's responsibilities during each program & activity.
- Maintain a clean and safe pool area. This is demonstrated by setting up or taking down class equipment, identifying potential hazards, and providing an overall clean and productive aquatic environment.
- Present yourself in a professional and authoritative manner.
Provide a welcoming and friendly environment by proactively engage and assist all members/guests
- Be knowledgeable of all Aquatics department schedules, programs, policies, & procedures
- Identify opportunities to offer to help those with physical disability
- Identify & approach members / guests who may be ill or in need of medical assistance.
- Answer questions or complaints to the best of ability, if needed contact the PA Coach, Aquatic Supervisor, Aquatics Director or the MOD.
- Print & use the daily PSL schedule to monitor and track PSLs as they occur.
Ensure Daily and weekly procedures are practiced and followed through
- Start your shift on-time
- Understand and comply with scheduling, availability, subbing processes
- Use the PA Attendance to document all relevant activities of your shift and review notes from previous shifts.
- Engage with Management with ANY concerns regarding members or guests
- Check PA binder for information, notes, and schedules
Maintain Knowledge and Support of Aquatics classes and programming
- Communicate with instructors before classes and prepare lane lines and/or equipment
- Make certain classes are given appropriate space and consideration from non-class participants
- Work with all Aquatic instructors to ensure proper space allocated for services and member usage equally.
- Clean up all equipment and return lane lines once class is completed
- Check the PA Binder on a daily basis and ensure you are able to speak about/promote the information in the PA Binder
Monitor basic pool operation
- Check chemicals twice per day, at 5am and 4pm (weekends), document and contact Facilities based on any difference from the standard
- Ensure air and water temperatures stay within appropriate ranges, contact Facilities based on any difference from the standard
- Be alert for other mechanical malfunctions
- PA may be given various cleaning tasks in order to maintain a safe and sanitary pool environment
QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma.
- It is important that Pool Attendants have strong interpersonal communication skills and are able to give direction and assistance.
- PA staff must be able to swim 25 yards on the front and 25 yards on the back without touching the ground.
- PA staff should be friendly, helpful and have the ability to relate well with people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.
- Previous experience as a Lifeguard or in a similar field is preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
- MUST have current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications before the first day of work. These certifications MUST be maintained at all times while employed by GLC
- MUST obtain valid Lifeguarding certification within 90 days of employment. American Red Cross is preferred. Jeff Ellis & Assoc, YMCA, or NASCO are also approved based on certification.
