Position Location: Eagan, MN; Little Rock, AR; or Carmel, IN

The electric industry is undergoing groundbreaking change at a rapid pace: aging infrastructure, changing consumer preferences, and growing intersections of environmental and political goals. As well, there is increasing interest in digitalization and electrification of things affecting traditional assumptions on the amount, timing, location, and shape of energy usage are spectacularly changing the characteristics of MISO’s resource fleet.

With this backdrop, MISO is seeking an inventive and innovative individual who is passionate about understanding and solving these challenges to help MISO prepare for the grid needs of the not-too-distant future.

As our Policy Planning Engineer, you will be a key part in helping MISO analyze and understand the impacts of the constantly evolving electric energy landscape. As a member of a diverse team that uniquely blends policy, engineering, and economics; you will support the development of multiple forward-looking planning scenarios across a twenty-year planning horizon and identify new generation resources and/or supply alternatives to meet these future needs/assumptions/requirements, including the siting of those resources within the grid.

Additionally, as our Policy Planning Engineer, you will be a key component in developing the messaging and communication of the team’s analysis and findings to a wide range of people as well as being an ambassador to other projects/teams and external constituents.

In one year as our Policy Planning Engineer, you will know you were successful if you can:

  • Maximize your expertise, experience, and analysis to transform MISO’s processes into industry-leading tools able to tackle the unprecedented constantly evolving energy landscape.
  • Engage and develop relationships with MISO stakeholders to collect ideas, understand concerns, incorporate feedback, and maintain a trusting business relationship.
  • Clearly and concisely document/present data, results, and other technical/sophisticated information in an effective manner that informs, influences, and shapes decisions to the benefit of the organization.

We are looking for hardworking engineers who have bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or two+ years of applicable internal MISO experience with a related Engineering degree.

It would be a huge plus, but not required, if you had:

  • Prior industry experience preferred in any of the following: resource planning, economic modeling of power systems (such as EGEAS, PROMOD, or PLEXOS), power systems engineering, engineering economics, economics, energy policy, or project management.
  • Prior industry experience working for an Independent System Operator (ISO), Regional Transmission Operator (RTO), federal or state regulatory commission, Electric Reliability Organization (ERO), Regional Reliability Organization (RRO) or utility is preferred

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
