About Simi Valley

The City of Simi Valley, home of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, was incorporated in 1969. It is a General Law City with a Council/Manager form of government. Simi Valley encompasses an area of 39 square miles and is located in the southeast portion of Ventura County. The current estimated population is 126,878, yet Simi Valley maintains a unique balance of open space and City amenities.

Outdoor recreation includes over a dozen beautiful parks, camping and picnic spots, tennis courts, two golf courses and one of the largest equestrian trail systems in the United States. The Police Officer Trainee is the entry-level position for those who have not yet attended the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified training academy. The academy is a six month long process and the first step in your law enforcement career. After successful completion of the academy, officers perform a variety of law enforcement duties to protect life and property in accordance with applicable laws.
Trainee's starting salary is $29.50 hourly (while attending the academy), plus excellent benefits.

Upon successful completion of the Police Academy, promotion to Police Officer and salary increase to $33.71. In addition, officers receive pay incentives such as educational pay and POST Intermediate or Advanced Certification pay. The possibilities are endless!
The Simi Valley Police Department offers excellent benefits, training and advancement opportunities and special assignments. We offer one of the most competitive benefit packages in law enforcement. The City participates in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Most of our medical plans (available through CalPERS) are fully paid, including family coverage with no monthly premium expense to the employee. There are 12 plans to choose from, including the PORAC plan (for Sworn personnel only).

Our Minimum Qualifications for consideration are:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited U.S. high school or a passing score on the General Education Development (GED) test.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver license with an acceptable driving record.
Must be 21 years of age as of the date of hire; a United States citizen or meet citizenship requirements; and be of good moral character with no felony convictions.

• Or if you have taken a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) entry-level examination (PELLET B) and achieved a passing T-Score of 45.0 or better within the last twelve months, submit your results to jobs@simivalley.org to by pass the NTN exam.

Testing process:

• Upon passing a written examination, candidates will be contacted through email to complete a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ).
• Candidates who complete PHQ's in an appropriate and timely manner will be invited for an oral interview with Background Detectives and placed on an eligibility list based on interview ranking.
• Top Candidates will undergo a thorough background investigation including a medical, psychological, polygraph, and drug/alcohol screening.
• A Physical Agility testing will include:
• Phase I:
• 99 Yard Obstacle Course (time limit 25 seconds).
• Body Drag (165 pounds) (time limit 14 seconds).
• Chain Link Fence (time limit 10 seconds).
• Solid Fence (time limit 13.5 seconds).
• One Mile Run (time limit 10 minutes).

• Chief's Final Oral Interview.
