The City of Palos Verdes Estates has a full-time Police Officer Recruit position available in the Police Department. Duties
The Police Officer Recruit attends a Peace Officer Standards and Training Academy and performs related duties as required. The Police Officer Recruit is responsible for performing up to Academy's standards at all times during the training period. The Police Officer Recruit is a miscellaneous employee without peace officer powers until successful completion of the P.O.S.T. basic academy.
Qualifications
Applicants should at minimum satisfy the following requirements:
Must be 21 years of age or older; U.S. Citizen; in good physical and mental condition, vision should be 20/80 corrected; a high school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent, and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License.
Ability to learn the application of laws, police procedures, and enforcement techniques.
Effective reading and writing skills.

Health Insurance
The City offers a generous benefit package for full-time employees and contributes $1,673 per month toward a cafeteria health plan for employees and dependents. Health Plans include:
Medical: Indemnity (PPO) or (HMO) plans through Anthem Blue Cross.
Dental: Indemnity plan (PPO) or HMO through Delta Dental.
Vision: Plan through VSP (City pays 100% of the employee; employee covers dependents)
Mental Health (EAP): An employee Assistance (EAP) plan available including a phone line, counseling, financial and legal consultations
Life and AD&D and Disability Insurance
Flexible Spending Account (FSA): Employees have the option to contribute to the Citys IRS 125 Tax-Saver Plan which allows employees to save tax dollars on medical expenses and childcare expenses.
Retirement
CalPERS: Full-time employees will be enrolled in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS).
2% @ 62 - "New members", as defined by the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA), which include employees hired on or after January 1, 2013. Employee contribution of 50% of the normal cost (currently set at 6.25%). Three year average final compensation.
2% @55 - "Classic Members," as defined by PEPRA, which include new employees either subject to reciprocity or not considered "new members" Single highest year final compensation. Employees shall pay their entire statutory share of required retirement contributions. There shall be no employer paid member contribution on behalf of any employee
Deferred Compensation:
Employees may participate in the voluntary pre-tax savings programs (457 and/or 401a) offered through ICMA (employee contribution only).
Leave Accruals
Holidays: The City observes 9 holidays, with 2 floating holidays offered.
Vacation & Sick: Vacation and Sick Leave are provided at an accrual rate of 1 day per month (12 days per year).
