Duties:
- Enforce laws and maintain public order within assigned jurisdiction
- Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity
- Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance as needed
- Conduct traffic stops and issue citations or warnings for traffic violations
- Investigate crimes, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and make arrests when necessary
- Prepare detailed reports on incidents, arrests, and investigations
- Testify in court as a witness in criminal proceedings
- Provide assistance and support to victims of crimes or accidents
- Conduct community outreach programs to educate the public on crime prevention and safety measures
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (some agencies may require a college degree)
- Completion of Ohio certified police academy training program
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass a background investigation, including criminal history check and drug screening
- Excellent physical condition and stamina to handle the demands of the job
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with the public and fellow officers
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick decisions in emergency situations
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and procedures related to law enforcement activities
- Proficiency in using firearms and other law enforcement equipment
