The Campus Police provide the full spectrum of Law Enforcement services to Red Rocks Community College students, staff, faculty and visitors.
Note: Typical shift for this full-time, entry level position will vary Monday - Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. with some Saturdays between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. required. Some Sunday shifts may be required. This position is considered essential personnel which requires being on duty to perform emergency services of the agency without delay and/or interruption and rotates shifts. This position is required to work at the Lakewood and Arvada campuses as needed. You must be willing to accept working at various locations and working varying hours as needed.

Position is located in the Campus Police Department at Red Rocks Community College and is designed to train the position. With direction and assistance from others, position will patrol campus property, parking lots, and buildings on foot, by bicycle and vehicle to prevent illegal activities; protect the safety of individuals, buildings and property; enforce statutes, laws, city ordinances, campus regulations, state liquor codes, fire codes and HAZMAT safety rules and regulations. Respond to dispatched calls to investigate complaints, reported or observed breaches of the peace, infractions of the law, crimes reported or in progress, accidents, disturbances and similar incidents, fire/burglary/holdup alarms, bomb threats, hazardous materials incidents, medical emergencies and civil disputes. Assist students, staff and visitors on campus; provide information and direction, student and money escorts, secure buildings, handle health and safety concerns; provide community service and assistance. Perform preliminary investigations at crime, incident and accident scenes to preserve or collect evidence, diagram scenes and obtain witness/victim/suspect statements; make arrests, detain or take suspects into custody, restrain or subdue resisting or combative individuals. Prepare written reports, field contact cards, and summons/warrant applications. Proper spelling, grammar and format is expected in all legal and administrative correspondence. Appear in court with other Police Officers to offer testimony. Enforce traffic rules and regulations, parking and traffic control for special events. Perform office duties to include operating a desktop computer with assigned software to enter and retrieve data. Ensure information is kept confidential. Utilize a two-way radio system to dispatch/monitor/communicate with department members. Attend and participate in various training sessions; remain current on new or revised state, municipal, or federal criminal and traffic laws, college policies and regulations. Establish and maintain continual community relations with the public through written and verbal exchange. Position will utilize Microsoft Office 365 and ARMS or EFORCE law enforcement software to complete a variety of daily tasks.

Minimum Qualifications: One year of college coursework (30 semester hours) in criminal justice. Possession of a current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification is required at time of application submission. You must submit a copy of your POST certification with your application in order to be considered.

Substitutions: One year of POST certified law enforcement experience which included patrolling, apprehending, arresting and enforcing criminal and civil laws will substitute for the one year of college coursework. Possession of a current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification is required at time of application submission. Part time experience will be prorated.

Condition of Employment: You must have possession of a current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) certification as required in accordance with C.R.S. 16-2.5-102 at the time of application. You must submit a copy of your POST/PID number with the application. Positions are subject to a background investigation in accordance with the administrative procedures of the State Personnel Director. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide RRCC Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges. You must pass the initial review in order to continue in the examination and interview process. This position requires the individual to exert or lift in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. It also requires seizing, holding, controlling, and/or otherwise subduing violent, assaultive, or physically threatening persons to defend oneself or prevent injury. Body strength and agility of all four limbs is necessary. This position is essential personnel, requiring being on duty to perform emergency services of the agency without delay and/or interruption and rotating shifts. This position may be required to work at the Arvada and Lakewood Campuses as needed. You must be willing to accept working at both locations and working varying hours as needed.

Necessary Special Requirements: Must be at least 21 years of age; possess a valid Colorado Driver License, a current First Aid/CPR/AED certificate, successful completion, within two years prior to application, of an approved Colorado Basic training course and you must not have any of the following:

  • Felony convictions
  • Domestic violence convictions
  • Acquiring more than seven points in the last year and/or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver's license.
  • Alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten years.

Preferred Qualifications: strong oral and written communication skills. Prior experience working in a higher education police environment, interacting with students, faculty and staff. Experience and ability to work with diverse groups of people. Understand and determine appropriate rules and regulations from various sources. Attention to detail. Basic computer knowledge. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.


Appeal Rights:
