The Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown offers 168 beds for nursing home care. Two levels of care are offered: standard care for veterans in need of any intermediate level of care, and memory care for veterans with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Protects lives & property, prevents crime & enforces criminal & traffic laws. Patrols grounds & buildings in car & on foot. Investigates & reports criminal activities & administrative violations. Apprehends & detains violators & appears in court as required. Identifies potential problem areas & assists in development of corrective measures & standard operating procedures. Performs & completes duties pursuant with Ohio Peace Officer’s Training Council training curriculum.
  • First responders to all emergency & urgent situations (e.g. fire & security alarms, assists with firefighting, medical emergencies, monitors weather alerts). Directs emergency procedures & notifies appropriate authorities. Assists, aids, & protects employees, residents, visitors & public.
  • Completes reports, maintains logs, records, files & collects data. Answers telephones, radios, issues vehicle permits & facility identification. Operates computers & other equipment (i.e. UHF, VHF & MARCS radios); uses & demonstrates proficiency with speed detection equipment, (i.e. radar, laser), electronic control device (i.e. laser). Carries firearm(s) (e.g., handgun, shotgun, carbine).
  • Performs security duties daily & at special events (i.e., assists in planning, parking operations, traffic control (vehicular & pedestrian), & coordinates safety plans. Serves warrants, testifies in court, transports prisoners to correction facility & court.
  • Provides work direction of personnel on assigned shift. Plans, assigns & provides direction to dispatchers, resident workers & other personnel. Follows policies, directives & collective bargaining agreements in assignment of working hours & overtime. Participates on committees, attends meetings & training.

    Trains new & current employees.

  • Performs additional routine administrative tasks relative to Police Division (e.g., types & files records & reports, maintains equipment for safety & cleanliness; stores inventory & disposes of property; issue keys, orders supplies & equipment; assists with animal control). Performs any additional job related duties as assigned & provides other public safety services.

Qualifications

Possession of certificate having successfully completed approved basic peace officer training program; valid driver’s license.
  • Or completion of 20 yrs. active duty as peace officer per Section 109.78(D) of Ohio revised code; valid driver's license. Probationary period is one year.

Note: Applicant must be able to successfully perform Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Program (OPOTC) Fitness Testing Entry Standards for New Recruits.

Unless otherwise required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be set at the lowest rate of the salary range with gradual increases after completing probation and following successful annual performance evaluations.

Background Check Information


The final applicant selected for this position may be required to submit to urinalysis prior to an appointment to test for illegal drug use. The State will decline to extend a final offer of employment to any applicant with a verified positive test result. Also, an applicant with a positive test result will not be considered for any position with the State of Ohio for a period of one year (not applicable to current state employees).
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal records check as required by Section 3721.121 of the Ohio Revised Code. Applicants who have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to any of the offenses listed in 3721.121 (C)(1)(a) may be excluded from consideration.
