Begin an exciting career with the City of Salem Police Department in our new Police Facility as a Police Digital Evidence Technician!

Are you a highly motivated and organized individual? We are looking for a talented professional to conduct a variety of complex, technical and specialized public safety support duties specific to the processing, maintenance, and distribution of digital media evidence in the custody of the Salem Police Department.

What you will do:
The Police Digital Evidence Technician performs a variety of complex, technical and specialized public safety support duties specific to the processing, maintenance, and distribution of digital media evidence in the custody of the Salem Police Department. This position may also provide support in the processing, storage and disposal of property and evidence. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with State, Federal and local laws, discovery mandates, subpoenas and record keeping. They may also be asked to retrieve, review, and redact body worn camera and digital media, for distribution.

Additional information on job responsibilities:
  • Interact with the public and other law enforcement agencies over the phone and in-person to coordinate release of digital media.
  • Certain aspects of work assignments can result in significant legal ramifications if not performed properly.

What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass the pre-employment drug test (including marijuana).
  • Must pass the pre-employment background check.
  • Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
  • High school diploma or GED with additional training in criminal justice or property and evidence management preferred, and one year of experience in property management, warehousing or computerized inventory management, preferably in a law enforcement environment, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
