The Long Beach Police Department currently has an opening for the position of Police Cadet. This is a unique opportunity to join one of the nation's finest and most diverse Police Departments. This position is ideal for current college students or recent graduates who have an interest in preparing for a career in law enforcement and is designed to give Police Personnel the opportunity to interact with and identify high-potential individuals for a future full-time position within the Police Department.
This position performs a variety of non-hazardous support functions for the Long Beach Police Department, which includes interacting with the public, on the phone, and in-person, assist with front desk operations, processing crime reports, community engagement, patrol and traffic support and assist with special projects/special events. This is a uniformed assignment and may require a minimum work schedule of 20 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Non-Career positions are part-time, at-will positions that are not typically eligible for health/dental/vision benefits; however, they are eligible for sick leave benefits. Non-career employees are limited to 1600 work hours per service year and are not guaranteed a minimum number of work hours or duration of employment.
This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in the same grade and classification.
- Interact with the public on the phone, and in person.
- Write accurate and complete police reports.
- Obtain information from victims and witnesses.
- Assist with clerical duties, file paperwork.
- Accept bail and provide court appearance information.
- Answer telephone lines, utilize internal computer systems; enter and retrieve data from computer; type and file documents; assist with building security.
- Access confidential law enforcement databases and retrieve information as needed.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Education equivalent to graduation from high school and currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with 2.0 GPA or higher. Those who have graduated (within one year of time of application) will also be considered. *Proof Required*
- Ability to work any assigned shift, including nights, weekends and holidays, with the understanding that college school schedules will receive priority.

- Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and TEAMS/SharePoint.
- Bilingual skills (Khmer, Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Vietnamese) are highly desirable.
