DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: The laboratory departments provide many services to our multi-hospital organization and outreach community including: blood collection, processing, testing, and reporting of results, spanning all disciplines of laboratory medicine.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Point of Care Testing Coordinator at St. Charles Health System coordinates all phases (pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical) of Point of Care Testing (POCT) throughout the System. This position does not directly manage other caregivers, however may be asked to review and provide feedback on the work of other caregivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Ensures POCT is performed in compliance with all regulatory and accrediation agency standards and requirements.
Develops, updates and maintains all written procedures related to POCT.
Ensures and documents the required orientation, training and continuing competency of all caregivers performing POCT.
Ensures that all required quality control, quality assurance, correlation studies, calibration verification and proficiency testing is performed and documented in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
Collaborates with clinicians, nursing and other laboratory leaders to assess and evaluate requests for expanded POCT.
Maintains tables, rules, security and reporting capabilities of POCT software products.
Serves as an expert resource to other St. Charles Health System clinics, hospitals, and departments performing POCT.
Ensures that reagents, instruments, quality control materials and all Point of Care Testing related supplies are properly ordered, inventoried, stored, used and disposed.
Collaborates with laboratory and other department leaders to assess, evaluate, purchase/replace and implement capital equipment used with POCT.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelors, Masters or Doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science from an accredited college or university.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Required: Current national certification or licensure at the Technologist/Scientist level by one or more of the following accredited credentialing agencies: ASCP, AMT, AAB, HEW, California Department of Health Services.
Acceptable credentials: MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP), BB (ASCP), H (ASCP), C (ASCP), M (ASCP), MB (ASCP), SBB (ASCP), SC (ASCP) , SM (ASCP), MT (AMT), MT (HEW), MT (AAB), CLS.
Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements.
Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites required.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Four years experience as a laboratory generalist.
Must demonstrate above average judgment, discretion, and technical skill.
Preferred: Supervisory experience preferred.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
