- Performs inspections of all phases of plumbing, sewer, water services and residential heating.
- Observes violations of, or variances from codes and issues orders for corrections.
- Follows up on all orders to compliance, including court appearances.
- Issues plumbing permits for all types of buildings.
- Explains, consults with and interprets various code provisions to contractors, architects and the general public.
- Prepares reports and keeps necessary records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Plumbing license as required by 145.05 (1) of Wisconsin State Statutes.
- Six years related experience.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
- Considerable knowledge of City and state codes, practices, tools and materials of the trade, safety hazards and precautions in the trade. General knowledge of trade math and blueprint reading.
- Skill and ability in inspecting a wide variety of plumbing and heating installations for compliance with applicable codes, locating and correcting code violations and defects in installations, reading, interpreting and explaining codes and blueprints and preparing rough sketches of work.
- Ability to enforce regulations with firmness and tact. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. Ability to work the required hours of the position.

- Frequent standing, walking, sitting and bending
- Ability to stoop, crawl, reach and climb stairs and ladders.
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions.
- Ability to focus for long periods of time on projects.
