DREAM is seeking dynamic individuals to serve as Athletics Specialists in our elementary-age REAL Kids program in East Harlem and the South Bronx. Reporting to the Out of School Time and Athletics Director, Athletics Specialists have direct oversight of all athletics programming at their assigned site. Specialists are responsible for managing a team of Athletics Coaches and high school-aged coaches who support students through activities every afternoon. Specialists work directly with the Director to ensure all Athletics activities are of high quality, and all staff and students follow all safety guidelines.
The ideal candidate is a reliable team player with a commitment to youth development, familiarity with the sports of baseball, softball, and soccer and the ability to motivate and manage teenage and college-age coaches. The Athletics Specialists are key members of the program team and ensure the continued excellence, growth and sustainability of DREAM’s programs.

Responsibilities
- Supervise up to 6 Athletics Coaches who lead athletics activities everyday;
- Supervise 10+ high-school aged coaches who support youth through athletics activities everyday;
- Drive implementation of youth baseball, softball, and soccer practices and games;
- Ensure all athletics programming is meeting quality standards according to program quality observations conducted by program leadership;
- Model and encourage positive youth behaviors, high energy, and skill building and promote DREAM’s mission, values and organizational policies to all staff, participants and volunteers;
- Lead huddles with Youth Workers to review Athletics curriculum, train in facilitation best practices and strategies, and provide staff with coaching and feedback;
- Attend and co-facilitate meetings with high school-aged coaches (daily) and college-aged coaches (1x/week);
- Conduct performance evaluations for Athletics Coaches and high school-aged summer coaches;
- Ensure all necessary materials are available or requested for use on the field;
- Responsible for ensuring all playing surfaces are safe and for implementing all DREAM safety guidelines;
- Collaborate with the Director to effectively integrate and continuously improve baseball, softball and soccer programming;
- Responsible for the escalation and documentation of all incidents, emergencies, injuries, and the filing of incident reports;
- Ensure all emergency protocols are carried out with fidelity.
Qualifications
- BA required;
- Experience providing feedback and coaching to adults in an athletics setting;
- 2+ years experience working in sports-based youth development required;
- Ability to promote, model and uphold positive youth development principles;
- Demonstrated strength as a baseball, softball or soccer coach preferred;
- 2+ years experience in summer youth development or athletics program planning and implementation, preferred;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, organization skills and attention to detail;
- A leader that demonstrates the ability to manage staff effectively in a sports based setting;
- A leader with the desire to show initiative with the ability to problem solve effectively on their own as well as part of a team;
- Experience modeling and training staff in behavior management and de-escalation strategies with youth;
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), a plus;
- A strong belief in the mission and values of DREAM, including the desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families, and community.
Commitment
- Start date: The ideal candidate can begin working approx. 5 hours/week In March in order to hire their team.

Compensation
- DREAM offers competitive compensation. The rate for this position is $55 per hour.
