The Clark County Real Property Management Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Playground Construction/Maintenance Technician position. This position will inspect park equipment, perform installation of park equipment, oversee and coordinate playground repair and review construction drawings of playground construction and renovation.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.
Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND four (4) years of full-time experience in performing installation, maintenance or repair work in a park setting. Experience to include working with irrigation systems and semi-skilled concrete and masonry work.

Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work out of doors in all weather conditions.
Licensing and Certification: Must possess valid Class C Nevada Driver's license at time of appointment. Must possess or obtain, within the first 12 months of employment and maintain throughout the term of employment, a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled cement and masonry projects, including cement forming, mixing, pouring, and finishing work. Builds walls and other structures using bricks, blocks, stone and similar materials. Installs, maintains, and repairs complex irrigation systems and related controls, including plumbing and pipe fitting functions. Excavates and constructs sanitary sewer systems for park sites and buildings. Constructs irrigation pumping systems, hydraulic flow control assemblies, and electronic water distribution controls. Operates and maintains surveying equipment and laser-enabled grade devices. Operates and maintains a variety of specialized tools and diagnostic equipment in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic and hydraulic control assemblies. Reads and understands a wide variety of construction blueprints, plans, specifications, and codes. May assist in administering contracts for professional services relating to park maintenance. Use a variety of hand and power tools while exercising safety. Performs skilled rough carpentry (roofing, walls, and partition repair and new construction). Performs various landscaping duties, including planting trees, shrubs, rock formations, etc. May provide assistance in design and layout of projects. May make recommendations for capital funding requests. Installs and repairs or coordinates vendor repairs to a variety of park equipment, including tables, playground and sports equipment, safety surfaces, shade structures, splash pads, etc. Regularly inspects the condition of park equipment for wear and tear or damage and coordinates repairs by e-mail, service request or work order. May direct the work of less skilled assistants on a specific team assignment or project basis; ensures that proper safety precautions are followed.

Safely and skillfully operates a wide variety of construction equipment (backhoes, loaders, etc.). Designs, lays out, and prepares sketches for concrete work, irrigation systems and related installation and maintenance jobs. Provides estimates to Supervisor regarding time and material needed for specific assignments. Prepares and paints a variety of surfaces in a typical park facility setting, including metal, wood, concrete/masonry. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Maintains records of work performed and materials used. Drives County or local agency vehicles to work sites and transports materials and assistants as required.Mobility to work in an outdoor setting with exposure to extreme weather conditions; operating typical trade equipment, hand and power tools; capable of driving a motor vehicle to various work sites; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work in confined or awkward spaces for an extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone.
