POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Community Development Program Director, this position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Play and Learn is a member benefit for children 6 weeks to 12 years of age. Staff will provide care for children up to two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon for parents that are in the facility. Creating a nurturing environment of warmth and friendliness, staff will lead children through a variety of fun and safe playtime activities.
Available Shifts: Weekdays: 8:30am-1:00pm, 4:00pm-8:00pm Saturdays: 8:00am-12:00pm
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide care for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years for members.
2. Keeps accurate records of attendance, incident reports and special needs as specified by parents.
3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities with keeping safety a top priority.
4. Maintains cleanliness of classroom and equipment.
5. Nurtures children through purposeful programming.
6. Assists in the Y’s annual campaign promotion and education.
7. Follows emergency procedures and safety precautions. Follows procedures for reporting accidents, incidents and hazards.
8. Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
9. Accepts additional assignments as deemed appropriate, within the scope of their job description.
10. Has availability for two weekend shifts per month, unless otherwise arranged with supervisor.
11. Performs all other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be at least 16 years old and have an understanding and knowledge of children, their behavior and development.
2. Ability to use age-appropriate behavior management techniques according to YMCA guidelines.
3. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of
hire date.
4. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
5. Warm and friendly personality and have the willingness to interact and play with children.
6. Supervises Play & Learn participants in order to ensure safety and provide a caring, nurturing environment.
7. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships
with people from different backgrounds.
