The Plant Planning Manager is responsible for the management of:
- Plant production schedules for finished goods,
- Planning and scheduling for intermedates such as WIP products,
- Materials planning and scheduling for plant specific materials,
- Maintaining an overview of plant material demands, and coordinating with other groups to ensure materials are available for kitchen work centers, assembly, and packaging schedules.
The Plant Planning Manager manages the short-term planning of the plant, considering an 8 week planning horizon.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo perform the duties of this position, the Plant Planning Manager must acquire product and process knowledge of the plant, such as workflow, allergen constraints and equipment capabilities. He/she must have a working knowledge of ERP/MRP and will work closely with the corporate planning group to ensure customer demand is met. The position requires one skilled in communicating effectively with other plant and corporate groups and having the ability to manage changes to schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Manage the short-term production schedule to optimize stock levels for all items produced by the facility. Use the Quintiq MRP/Scheduler system to develop and maintain schedules, and to identify capacity and other scheduling conflicts. Solicit and consider input from manufacturing as needed to design a viable schedule. Eliminate constraints within the Quintiq schedule.
- Requires strong interaction with other groups, including corporate planning, manufacturing, sourcing, quality assurance, customer service, and logistics groups. Must develop and ensure effective, timely communication with them to share and receive information bearing on production schedule.
- Maintain awareness of production results, and initiate action to correct deviations from plan.
- Acquire Amy's product, BOM, process, plant, distribution, and market knowledge to build effective manufacturing schedules.
- Initiate action to correct or improve planning system data configuration as needed.
- Manage generation of new data for planning systems as required to support new recipes and resources.
- Manage export of work order data from Quintiq Scheduler to Oracle. Ensure identification of exceptions to interface process wherein order details are are not synchronized across systems and take action to correct such exceptions.
- Manage resource calendar maintenance in planning systems.
- Manage material substitutions and other variations on recipes to comply with Culinary and Food Safety approvals.
- Perform analysis of production rates, equipment usage and labor demands. Initiate action to update recipes and planning systems data where appropriate.
- Support new product and trial needs through coordination with R&D and other groups.
- Publish metrics related to Plant Planning and scheduling performance, e.g. frequency/reasons schedule changes, on-time delivery raw materials, frequency expedited materials, and others TBD.
- Manage planning of plant specific materials, both raw and WIP, to appropriate inventory levels.
- Maintain an overview of plant material demands, and coordinates with other groups, such as sourcing, planning, manufacturing, QA, R & D, and logistics, to ensure materials (raw materials, packaging, WIP) are available for work center and production schedules.
- Work with Corporate Materials Planning Manager to maintain plant specific MRP settings.
- Perform the duties of Master Planner, Kitchen Planner, Material Planner or Production Scheduler as required to cover staff absences.

Qualifications and SkillsQUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B. S.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2-5 years experience in manufacturing and material scheduling, preferably food or consumer packaged goods
- 2 years minimum management experience
- ERP system experience required using MRP applications.
- APICS CPIM or CSCP certification preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
APICS CPIM or CSCP certification preferred.
