Rate of Pay: $15.00/hr - Position Type: Full Time Status: Accepting Applications Apply Now Job Summary $500 hiring Incentive upon completion of three (3) months of continuous employment with the City of Coweta The position is open until filled, and could be filled before the closing date & time. Performs technical work in the operation of a water treatment facility. Works with other operators to ensure the plant operations meet all state and federal regulations. Experience Required: Experience in water treatment, water treatment plant operations, and water/sewer line construction and repair including operation water pump stations and wastewater lift stations.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Minimum Education Requirements: Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent. Direct Supervisor: Plant Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibility: As needed. Primary Work Location: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee may be exposed to Bloodborne Pathogens. Hepatitis B Vaccination is available.

Job Responsibilities Monitors and operates the water treatment plant and assigned related facilities to ensure water quality objectives and systems demands are met and that the water produced and distributed complies with all state and federal standards, regulations and guidelines. Operates water treatment plant: Monitors instruments, gauges, flowmeters, charts, system control computer, etc. Conducts water analysis tests such as hardness, alkalinity, pH, turbidity, chlorine residual, etc., for treatment process control.

Determines chemical feed rates and adjusts chemical dosages. Reads and records chemical usage; fills chemical feeders; mixes chemicals; changes reagents. Determines and maintains proper flow rates in accordance with water demand.

Maintains treatment records in accordance with state and federal regulations. Operates in an efficient and effective manner. Calibrates and adjusts equipment for optimal treated water output.

Backwashes filters as needed. Cleans all equipment, tools, glassware used throughout daily operation in the laboratory. Collects representative water samples from the plant and performs chemical, physical, and bacteriological tests to assure water quality; submits samples for testing as required.

Assists in the ordering of chemicals and lab supplies. Understands water treatment theory and technology and applies that knowledge to the water treatment process and production. Maintains all required records such as operating logs, laboratory, chemical and electrical use, repair part inventories, and maintenance logs; distributes information to internal and external personnel.

Performs routine preventive maintenance on plant equipment to include: operating adjustments and calibrations on equipment, basic mechanical and electrical work and cleaning, lubricating and replacing equipment parts. Performs building and grounds maintenance as needed, including mowing, painting, housekeeping duties, cleaning, etc. Performs all work in a safe manner using standard operating procedures and required personal protective equipment.

Checks motors and pumps and other equipment for excessive noise and temperatures. Ensures that treatment facilities are safe and secure. Operates a tractor, backhoe, or front-end loader to perform maintenance tasks including removal of sludge from the settling basins.

Responds to and participates in emergency situations. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge - General knowledge of the operating principals, practices and maintenance requirements of water treatment and pumping equipment and machinery.

General knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with water plants and related activities. General knowledge of chemistry as applied to water treatment; some knowledge of standard laboratory principles, techniques, terminology and equipment. Skills - Operation of motor vehicle, telephone, common hand tools, generators, backhoe, dump truck, shovels, wrenches, two-way radio, personal computer, typewriter, copy machine, and fax machine.

Abilities - Must be able to understand and follow specified operating and recording procedures. Must have the ability to work shifts, weekends and holidays. Operators may be required to work extended hours during emergencies.

Must be able to detect defects and to take appropriate action in the operation of water treatment equipment chemical feed machines and other related equipment. Must be able to respond to all public works emergencies and natural disasters including: flooding, tornadoes, fires, winter weather and all other natural disasters. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Qualifications Required Licenses and Certifications: ODEQ "D" level water Plant Operator Possession of or ability to readily obtain upon hire a valid Oklahoma driver's license Must be able to read and write the English language.

Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing, with employees, consultants, other governmental agency representatives, City officials, and the general public.
