Wastewater Plant Operator I

About this Position
The Wastewater Plant Operator I position is one of several Wastewater Plant Operator jobs within the wastewater treatment plant for the City of Edmond. This municipal wastewater operator will be responsible for multiple duties to ensure the continued operation of the plant, including conducting routine equipment and machinery adjustments; performing routine maintenance on all plant equipment (including cleaning and painting); and occasionally supervising one or more operator trainees.
Responsibilities

• Make plant rounds to check equipment/processes and to make minor adjustments to ensure effective plant operation
• Perform minor equipment repairs and routine preventive maintenance activities
• Monitor and control plant flow rates by controlling pumping operations at lift stations
• Record any maintenance activities to keep accurate documentation
• Complete logs and operator records to document operating conditions & plant data
• Perform general housekeeping tasks including cleaning and maintaining plant equipment, buildings, and grounds
• Obtain wastewater operator licenses according to the following schedule (the City will assist with obtaining these licenses):
  
  • A temporary license within 10 days
  • A Class "D" within six months
  • Both a Class "C" Wastewater Operator and Class "C" Wastewater Works Laboratory Operator license within 2 years
• Conduct laboratory analysis using regulated parameters and documentation according to the quality assurance and quality control system
• Conform to all safety rules as required by City policy, standard procedures, and accepted standards in the industry

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent, plus specialized training equal to two years of college
• 2 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Wastewater Works Operator "B" license (preferred)
• Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier

Necessary Skills

• Good mathematical ability
• Good written/verbal communication skills to understand policy/procedure manuals and write reports
• Willingness to take continuous education classes to maintain or upgrade ODEQ licenses
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds (regularly) and more than 100 pounds (occasionally)
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl as needed
• Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug, physical, and audio screenings
• Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends, and on-call as needed to assist with emergency call outs for the plant and lift station during off-staff hours
