Under general supervision, performs all activities to operate and maintain the biological treatment process, chemical treatment, mechanical functions, and labor operations of the wastewater treatment plant; and to monitor and operate sewage lift stations and the water distribution system.Monitors and operates the wastewater treatment plant equipment and the water distribution system equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, filters, gauges, and meters to ensure proper functioning of the wastewater plant, sewage lift stations, and the water distribution system.
Monitors the flow of wastewater, dissolved oxygen concentration, and ammonia concentration to make adjustments to treatment processes.
Monitors water storage tank levels and distribution pressures to make adjustments needed to meet consumer demand for potable water.
Monitors and operates bio-solids dewatering equipment as needed.
Collects wastewater samples and interprets lab results to make process adjustments.
Maintains daily records and monthly reports on wastewater operations.
Maintains a clean and safe work area in and around all the plant processes and buildings.
Completes preventative and corrective maintenance work orders on pumps, motors, air blowers, and other equipment in a timely manner.
Trains other operators in methods and procedures relating to wastewater treatment plant, lift station, and water distribution system operation.
Informs supervisor of all problems, deviations, and unfamiliar situations.
Adheres to the personnel, safety, and department policies.
Assist other coworkers as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
Must have a valid Texas driver's license and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.
EDUCATION:
Must possess a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class "B" Wastewater Operator License and a Class "C" Water Distribution License prior to offer of employment.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Four (4) or more years of experience in wastewater treatment operation is required.
Must submit to and pass a post?offer, non?regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history).KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
Excellent knowledge of the operation, equipment, and materials used in wastewater plants, sewage lift stations, and potable water distribution systems.
Must have basic knowledge of computers, SCADA systems, water treatment chemicals, testing procedures, and math and mechanical skills.
Must be able to work various shifts in a 24 hour period to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Must be able to read, write, see, hear, and walk.
Must have good hand/foot/eye coordination to operate equipment.
Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities to include, exerting up to 100 lbs. of pressure; lifting heavy objects; shoveling for long time periods; crawling; bending; walking; kneeling; climbing on and off equipment; and operating moving and vibrating equipment.
Must be able to work indoors; underground; outdoors; in confined spaces; on level and unleveled terrain; under constantly noisy conditions; and work in adverse environmental conditions to include inclement weather, hazardous conditions including mechanical, electrical, fumes, odor/dust/mist, chemical, toxic waste hazards, and other solid waste substances.
