The City of Mount Holly's Planning Department is looking to hire a full time Intern for Summer 2024. The Intern would need to be a Master’s student in Planning, Public Administration, or a closely related field. The internship will run from Monday, May 13th- Friday, August 2nd, and will be a paid internship experience. The pay for the internship is $16.00 an hour. Time will be paid for hours worked and checks will be provided on a biweekly pay schedule.
The internship will encompass both project work (Examples: Text amendments, re-zonings, assisting with events, story map creation, etc.) & routine office work-including research, filing, taking meeting minutes, proofing documents, & assisting greeting customers.
The Intern should have potential projects in mind when applying, but if none are provided, projects will be assigned by the Planning Department. The number of projects completed and their complexity will depend on the educational attainment of the Intern and the length of their commitment to the City. The goal of these projects is to help Interns gain experience, and provide products that they can market as they advance in their career.
The Intern will be assigned and get experience working in all four of the Planning Department’s sections-which include-Administration, Planning, Permitting & Code Enforcement, and GIS Mapping. The Intern, if interested, will also have the opportunity to shadow other departments and work units in the City & is encouraged to attend City Council and advisory board meetings.
The selected Intern will be provided a computer and phone by the City to facilitate their work during the internship experience.
Applications are due by Friday, March 22nd. The final candidate will need to pass a background check and drug screen. For questions, please email or call Paul Lowe, Assistant Planning Director, at paul.lowe@mtholly.us -704-951-3014.
