Under the direction of the Senior Physician Liaison and the Physician Relations Associate Director, the Physician Liaison has the responsibility for development and management of strategic referral relationships through consistent, strategic field call strategies that drive business to the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals. The liaison will conduct field visits with physicians, hospitals, and other referral sources, write sales plans to market the clinical expertise of UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals, respond to referral issues, identify needs of referral sources, and report findings to leadership. The Physician Liaison will support overall growth strategies within their assigned geography. The Physician Liaison serves as the primary point of contact for the external referring audiences, and must represent the medical center to several of its most demanding market segments in a responsible, mature and responsive manner. This individual positively represents UCSF Health and Benioff Children's Hospitals with the intent to drive and sustain referral volume in alignment with UCSF Health growth strategies.
The UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals Physician Liaison territory includes the Central Valley and portions of the San Francisco Bay Area, with potential travel throughout Northern California. It is preferred that the candidate reside in the identified territory, with the majority of time spent in the territory. The position is fully remote with the majority of time spent in the territory and occasional in-person departmental meetings in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related area and/or equivalent experience / training.
Minimum Experience: 5+ years' experience in healthcare sales or familiarity with a Physician Liaison role
License Required: Maintain a current California driver's license and meet all Hospital Risk Management requirements, including no moving violations within one year.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong knowledge of health care industry trends. Advanced knowledge of the medical center or health system's product lines and services. Experience in healthcare sales or Physician Liaison programs. Strong quantitative and analytical skills to perform complex market and financial analysis. Event planning or continuing medical education experience desired. Strong interpersonal communication, relationship building and political acumen skills. Strong knowledge of physician practice, managed care relationships and payor contracting. Familiarity with medical terminology. Knowledge of UCSF, the Bay Area region and California's health care environment. This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF locations. Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others in a team environment
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with a CRM product, particularly Salesforce. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and technical skills to learn specialized applications and tools in the field.
Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a field setting. Heavy emphasis is placed on getting out into doctor's offices and other sites to conduct informational calls. The position demands frequent and possible overnight travel, including some weekends. Access to dependable transportation is necessary.
