- Performs venipuncture, fingerstick and heelstick
- Accurately collects specimens from the proper patient for the correct test
- Makes floor rounds to pick up specimens and delivers to laboratory
- Maintains stock for collection trays
- Performs point of care tests and reports results to appropriate personnel
- Has working knowledge of lab computer; prints out patient identification labels, verifies collection and receipt of specimens and results point of care tests
Requirements:
- Completion of 12th grade (high school) or phlebotomy training program
- Must have good written and verbal skills; must frequently work under pressure.
- Must be able to follow instructions explicitly as not to compromise patient care.
- Exhibits calm behavior to patients and visitors.
- Ability to get along well with others.
- Must adhere to medical ethics and have concern for the welfare of the patient, laboratory and institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in NCA, ACA, ASPT, or ASCP is preferred
