Phlebotomist
Health Brigade (HB), formerly Fan Free Clinic is seeking a full time Phlebotomist to conduct confirmatory blood draws across several of our testing programs, mainly our syringe exchange program. Candidates must already be trained in phlebotomy and provide proof of training. The successful candidate will have knowledge of, and be comfortable working with diverse populations, including but not limited to communities of color, LGBTQ communities, low income communities and people who inject drugs (PWID). The Phlebotomist will also support in-house testing. Candidate must be trained or willing to be trained in Rapid HIV and Hep C testing per Virginia Department of Health standards.
Requirements
High School Diploma, or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in health science, health education, or related field; or at least 2 years of experience working in HIV Prevention is preferred. HIV/AIDS knowledge preferred. Candidates must demonstrate oral and written communication skills. Computer skills are required and proficiency in Microsoft Office products preferred.
The selected candidate must be able to work collaboratively with a variety of staff within the organization across several programs. HB expects individuals to have a strong work ethic and commitment to our mission and values. Candidates must be able to work in a team environment, as well as work independently. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Successful candidate must possess skills that support and enable sound decision making, strong personal and professional boundaries, good judgement, and discretion. Fluency in Spanish a plus!
Knowledge and Skills
- At least 2 years of experience drawing blood.
- Experience with difficult sticks, patients with scar tissue or over used veins
- Knowledge of populations disproportionately affected by HIV
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate; written and oral.
- Ability to work in a mobile setting collecting samples in the field.
- Ability to organize work, coordinate projects, set priorities, adhere to deadlines and follow-up on assignments with minimal direction.
- Must have reliable personal transportation.
Compensation
Compensation starts at $22/hour plus benefits. Vaccinations are required. Generous PTO and holiday schedule, flexible work environment. The majority of this work must be done in person at the office.
