Job Description: The Sterling Long-Term Care Pharmacy Technician - Data Tech is responsible for receiving and processing prescription drug orders.
Core Competencies and Responsibilities:
- Receive new and refill prescriptions physically or electronically from facilities and prescribers, evaluating information for completeness and accuracy.
- Deliver quality customer service to facilities and/or patients, responding to inquiries, questions, or requests, and referring them to the pharmacist when needed for medical information.
- Perform electronic data entry with attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness.
- Work with providers and their agents to obtain prescription refills, prior authorizations, and other needed information.
- Work with insurance companies to help patients get medications approved for reimbursement.
- Collect appropriate information for billing of Medicaid and Medicare for DME and supplies and reconcile claims to ensure adequate payment
- Answer the telephone in a timely manner (within 3 rings)
- Monitor reimbursement of prescriptions to achieve optimal gross profit margins
- Be aware of and adhere to all policies and procedures related to pharmacy operations.
- Stay well-informed of and compliant with all statutes, rules and regulations related to pharmacy practice, both State and Federal.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement and quality assurance program.
- Communicate with pharmacy manager on a regular basis
- Represent Sterling Long-Term Care Pharmacy as a pharmacy employee to the general public
- Work toward achieving certified Pharmacy Technician status
- Performs any other duties inherent to pharmacy operations as assigned

Physical Requirements and Work Demands:
- Requires the ability to work up to 40 hours per week and occasionally more
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule including early morning, evening and weekend hours
- In a typical 8-hour day, the candidate can lift or carry items up to approximately 25 pounds and sit approximately 8 hours
- In a typical day, the candidate can spend 1-2 hours on the telephone
