Overview:
The retail Pharmacy Support person is responsible for nontechnical duties assigned by a supervising pharmacist including, but not limited to, facilitating awareness for patients and hospital staff of ACP services, delivery of medications to patient care areas and outside of Allen Hospital as needed, performing routine errands within the hospital, clerical duties, processing wholesale drug orders, receiving requests to fill prescriptions by phone or in person, performing drug inventory duties, assisting in the cleaning of the work area, and restocking and ordering of supplies. Foremost among the responsibilities is fulfilling the liaison position for the Allen Clinic Pharmacy and delivery of services throughout the hospital (and outside of campus as needed). The retail Pharmacy Support person is expected to understand and support the mission and vision of Unity Point Waterloo, Allen Hospital.
Responsibilities:Medication Distribution •Delivering of medications to bedside at the time of discharge. •Assisting the out-window in the Allen Clinic Pharmacy. Care Coordination •Coordinating patient requests for medication services with other health care providers, both face to face and through the hospital computer system. Customer Service •Delivering excellent customer service in the discharge delivery program and in the pharmacy. Pharmacy Support •Stocking supplies/medications on shelves. •Assisting in clerical work in the pharmacy as assigned. •Assisting in errands inside the hospital as assigned. Basic UPH Performance Criteria •Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines. •Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance. •Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position. •Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. •Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year. •Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance. Qualifications:Minimum Requirements 2 years of prior cash handling and customer service experience in retail environment. Register with the Board of Pharmacy as Pharmacy Support staff within 30 days of hire or registration as a tech in training or certified pharmacy technician at the time of hire. Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Ability to read, write, comprehend and speak fluent English. Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
