As a [insert role] within the [insert department] at the Georgia Department of Public Health,you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.
Responsibilities
You will support the Department by utilizing your expertise to fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Describe the important responsibilities and expectations (e.g., work commitment, quality, tasks, performance, team contributions, etc.) (no more than 7-10 bullet points) by using language that will build excitement and awareness of the role including:

- Performs the duties of a Lab Technician in accordance with established guidelines.
- Processes patient medical intake for programs including Family Planning, Women's Health, BCCP, STI, SSI, PE MDCD, and General Lab.
- Collects, processes, and packages specimens for proper distribution to appropriate laboratories for testing. Collaborates with laboratories to ensure timely reception of lab results and informs clinicians of any abnormal lab results to facilitate patient notification.
- Completes electronic charting of any vital signs, laboratory tests, or progress notes as well as any paper charting/forms in a timely manner. Ensures all paper forms are properly scanned into Electronic Medical Records for individual patients.
- Maintains a clean and functional laboratory space and completes quality control on all laboratory tests to ensure compliance with CLIA regulations. Manages supplies and ensures that orders are submitted in a timely manner when needed.
- Places upmost importance in continued education and ensures initial and annual training modules are completed in a timely manner for district and state requirements.
- Participates in public health events and emergency exercise drills. It may include health fairs, mass flu vaccine clinics, and emergency response events for a real or drill-purposed event.
- Serves as a Lab Technician for the Cherokee County Health Department, provides coverage for the Canton Health Department when requested by Supervisor and/or County Health Nurse Manager.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year experience working as a Laboratory Technician.
- Phlebotomy certification.
- Experience ordering laboratory tests through LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics.
Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.
CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.
