POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Director, the Personal Training Specialist provides direct support and leadership to the wellness center and Personal Training programs. This position is responsible for direct Personal Training service as well as working alongside the Healthy Living Director to develop and train other personal
trainers, ensure that members have support while working out, and maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the wellness center. As a member of the branch wellness team, they will work to strengthen relationships with members and build up a reputable Personal Training program in the branch.
The Personal Training Specialist is responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develops, promotes, and delivers high-quality wellness and small group training programs serving members, with an intentional focus on the development of the Personal Training program through relationship building, engagement and skill development.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
- Supports the overall vision for membership and the wellness department and Association initiatives.
- Personal Training requirements of a minimum of 15 hours per week within the first 90 days of start date and increases to a minimum of 28 hours per week within the first 6 months.
- Works alongside the Healthy Living Director with monitoring the wellness center for safety and cleanliness coordinating with maintenance and contractors as necessary.
- Responsible for working shifts on the Wellness floor to support member engagement, relationship building, Personal Training client recruitment and member orientations.
- Supports the orientation process for new members and middle schoolers.
- In collaboration with the Healthy Living Director, assigns trainers to members and tracks sales and training hours.
- Assists with onboarding, training, and developing new personal trainers at the branch and regionally.
- May assist the Healthy Living Director with scheduling within the Fisikal platform.
- Maintains all records and performs administrative tasks for their assigned programs that are necessary for the operation of the department and branch.
- Maintains high visibility at branch to ensure top quality member engagement through developing a strong rapport with members, staff, and volunteers.
- Assists with the Annual Campaign, developing a team and working with campaign volunteers to ensure members understand philanthropy and the scope of the YMCA’s work in the community.
- Attends and occasionally leads continuing education training as needed and serves on association committees and participates in Association program initiatives as appropriate.
- Maintains a flexible work schedule, including evening and weekends as needed.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1-2 years of related program development experience.
- NCCA accredited certification required.
- Additional specialty certifications (i.e. CSCS or health coach certification, etc) preferred.
- Knowledge and ability to demonstrate certain movement assessments required.
- Experienced and passionate about creating and fostering communities and relationship building through programs.
- Demonstrate a high level of initiative, be a self-starter.
- Demonstrated ability to lead training for peers and others in the areas of personal and small group training.
- Must be able to become trained to lead EVOLT Body Composition Analysis and train others on how to utilize that tool.
- Possess a high level of organization, ability to prioritize and possess the capacity to respond and handle multiple tasks appropriately in a dynamic and fast paced work environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate through Email.
- Ability to perform administrative tasks with knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Must obtain certifications in Basic Life Support/First Aid and Emergency Oxygen within first 30days of hire.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Multi-lingual desired but not required.
