The Perfusionist operates the heart-lung machine in the hospital to take over functions of the patient's heart and lungs during surgery or respiratory failure.
Essential Job Functions
•Reviews patient medical history and chart, consults with surgeon or physician to obtain patient information needed to operate
•heart-lung machine and associated equipment.
•Selects, assembles, and tests heart-lung machine & supplies to ensure that machine and associated equipment function according to specifications.
•Monitors and observes operation of heart-lung machine and patient's physiologic variables such blood temperature, blood composition, and flow rate, and adjusts equipment to maintain normal body functions.
•Assures proper function and maintenance of equipment in conjuction with external technical staff.
•Works with OR and Materials Management team to find the most cost effective methods of providing the service to include equipment purchases and vendor contracts for support.
•Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality.
•Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.
•Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance.
•Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic's mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.
•Performs all other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
•Board Certified by the American Board of Perfusion at hire
Experience
•Board Certified by the American Board of Perfusion at hire
•Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
Certifications and Licenses
•Board Certified by the American Board of Perfusion at hire
•Employees that require a licensed or certification must be properly licensed/certified and the licensure/certification must be in good standing.
