Job Details

Hope Academy is seeking a dynamic and visionary Performing Arts Coordinator to lead the transformation of our music department. Someone with a strong passion to cultivate a captivating music program that seamlessly integrates diverse instruments and vocal styles with biblical and cultural influences to create a rich and immersive musical experience that resonates with students of all backgrounds. The Performing Arts Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and facilitating music education for middle and high school students. This position requires a deep passion for music, strong organizational skills, and the ability to inspire and guide students in their musical journey. The Performing Arts Coordinator will work closely with students, teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure the success and growth of the music program.

This position has traditionally focused on choir, but we are excited to welcome candidates who will help us reimagine and revitalize our entire performing arts program, encompassing a wide range of musical genres and styles that reflect the beautiful diversity of the families we serve. Historically, students have taken required choir and general music classes throughout middle school and have had optional choir participation in high school, but we recognize we have struggled to capture the hearts and imaginations of our students through music as we desire to. Hope Academy serves a wonderfully diverse population of families and students and we want our music program to reflect their unique cultures, languages, experiences and worship styles. Help grow our performing arts programming here at Hope Academy with a fresh vision in our beautiful new facilities for the 2024-2025 school year!

What kind of people do we want to hire? : We want to hire people that want to build things, have vision and work toward the highest capabilities in their own given area of expertise. We want people that don't rely on others to define their cultural expectations, but rather that they have their own internal compass for excellence and imagine how things can be better in every area of their care. We believe in a growth mindset with room to fail by trying new ways that might foster better results in student work and flourishing. We believe in learning from failure toward excellence. We want people to identify and ask for what they need to make the highest quality program under their care. We want people to push the envelope of what could be and have the drive to lead it. We want people who see the connection of their work and vocational calling to their faith and to building up others in a knowledge of the gospel that integrates work with faithfulness and a holistic identity in Christ.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with music teachers to develop comprehensive and engaging K-12 music curriculum aligned with state standards and educational goals.
  • Teaching Middle School and High School Music Classes: Plan and teach 4 classes per semester (2 middle school, 2 high school) in the Performing Arts. Middle school should focus on general music education and providing opportunities for students to explore a variety of musical interests while also gaining experience in performing. High school electives allow students to go deeper in their musical pursuits and are an opportunity for this position to grow a program from scratch based on your proposed vision and student feedback. These electives may be developed around vocals, instrumentals, worship arts or other performing arts.
  • Individual & Ensemble Instruction: Provide individualized instruction and coaching to students, helping them improve their musical skills on instruments or voice.
  • Recruitment and Retention: Develop strategies to recruit new students into the music program and retain existing members through innovative and inclusive practices.
  • Performance Management: Coordinate and oversee music performances, concerts, recitals, and competitions, ensuring smooth logistics and exceptional musical experiences for students and audiences.
  • Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with parents, community members, and local organizations to garner support for the music program through volunteerism, and outreach initiatives.
  • Professional Development: Be open and honest about areas of needed growth and pursue professional development opportunities.
  • Administrative Duties: Handle administrative tasks such as budget management, scheduling, communication, grading, curriculum submission and record-keeping related to the music program.

General Faculty Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience working with middle and/or high school students in a music education setting.
  • Proficiency in conducting and/or directing various musical ensembles.
  • Strong knowledge of music theory, history, and repertoire across different genres and styles.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail for managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, for lesson planning and providing timely feedback to students throughout the semester.
  • Dedication to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for a multi-cultural student population.

Working Conditions: The Performing Arts Coordinator will primarily work within the school setting, including classrooms, rehearsal spaces, performance venues, and administrative offices. This position may require evening and weekend hours during rehearsals, concerts, and other events. Travel to competitions, festivals, and professional development activities may also be necessary. Hope Academy is opening a brand-new facility this summer with beautifully designed spaces for our music program, including a large classroom/small performance space and multiple rehearsal rooms onsite.

Interested applicants should include a vision casting statement for the Music Program at Hope Academy along with your cover letter.
