Summary: The Peer Support Specialist will establish a personal relationship with the Member and will support the Member in completing an assessment to determine the needs and strengths of the Member. They will assist the Member in developing a support plan to assist them in accessing and using treatment and support programs in order to eliminate or decrease the need for hospital emergency room services or to enhance their ability to remain independent. They use their own recovery story to assist Members on their recovery journey.
Essential Duties:
- Support the Member in the recovery process in developing wellness self- management skills, creating recovery goals and a WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan)
- Identify triggers and warning signs, provide supports and resources for the Member to use when they are struggling with their recovery.
- Utilize the WRAP crisis plan of action and any other actions or activities that will provide support for the Member.
- Encourage attendance at community based mutual support groups.
- Foster healthy interactions between the Member and their other service providers, i.e.…Psychiatrists, physicians, and therapists by assisting the Member in preparing for their clinical visits.
- Support the Member in connecting with family and friends in building a support network.
- Participate in supervision weekly.
- Complete all required documentation.
- Record time on the timesheet.
- Transport yourself to meet the Member in the community.
- Accompany Members to locations where services can be provided most effectively.
- Maintain a vehicle in compliance with company policy and safety inspection criteria.
Qualifications Required:
- Demonstrate stability in your recovery.
- Successfully pass the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare background check.
Education Required:Peer Support, Family Support, Youth Support Certification, High School Diploma or GED
