Peer Support Specialist, Remote - Member Advocate

Affect Therapeutics combines mobile technology, addiction counseling and medical care to help our Members in their recovery journey. Affect delivers care 100% virtually in an effort to decrease barriers to care and improve access.
Affect's program gives members the tools and incentives they need, exactly when and where they need them. By combining a digital therapeutic smartphone app with an integrated care team, our program delivers real-time, data-driven advances in treatment, leading to improved outcomes and lower healthcare costs. Affect's services are offered to our members virtually and our team operates fully remotely. This is a 100% work from home opportunity. Candidates MUST have an active Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (OMHAS) Adult Peer Support certification and are actively enrolled in Medicaid.
About the Role:
The telehealth Member Advocate shares the Affect Therapeutic values of Empathy, Passion, and Accountability and uses these when striving to provide the help and resources each of our Members need to achieve and their recovery goals. The Member Advocate acts as the connection between our clinical program delivery and the member. The role includes but is not limited to:

• Running Group Orientation sessions with new members, to properly align expectations, answer questions, and provide support during the first few days of enrollment.
• Answering incoming member phone calls and sms messages.
• Coordinating and advocating for member's access to necessary services and resources, including medical, psychiatric, legal, and social services.
• Providing education and support to members and their families regarding substance use disorder, recovery, and available resources.
• Team ownership over member retention, engagement, and the overall success on their journey to recovery.
• Utilizing Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other internal tools to schedule, coordinate, reschedule, follow-up with, and all other interactions with current members.
• Coordinating with other team members (e.g., Product/Engineering, Clinical, and more) to garner member feedback on all elements of their experience with Affect and work to set solutions into practice.

Requirements:

• Active Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (OMHAS) Adult Peer Support certification
• Actively enrolled in Ohio Medicaid
• High school diploma required; Bachelor's or Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience providing Peer Support, case management, or advocacy services to individuals with substance use disorder or related conditions, including crisis management interventions.
• Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor during all member interactions.
• Knowledge of evidence-based practices in substance use disorder treatment and familiarity with available resources and services.
• Ability to communicate effectively with members, families, and fellow professionals in a clear manner.
• Excellent written, presentation, communication, and analytical skills.
• Attention to detail, ability to juggle multiple priorities, and can work in an environment where change is frequent.
• Committed to a high ethical standard in everything you do.
• You must have a quiet, private dedicated home office with a door, to allow for HIPAA compliant conversations, with reliable internet connection.

Optional but preferred:

• Enthusiasm about working for a small early-stage company.
• High comfort level with technology, including EMR software, email, Slack, and mobile apps (e.g., Google Suite).
• Experience with training and/or mentoring team members.

Schedule:
While Member Advocates have set hours, we offer flexibility in setting those hours as long as it is in the best interest of serving our members. Availability for schedule changes and occasional evening hours is preferred.
