More about the Role:
We are looking for a Peer Support Specialist who is responsible for providing Peer Support services to individuals facing mental health challenges or substance use disorders. The primary focus of this role is to offer empathy, encouragement, and personal experience-based assistance to promote recovery and overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage with individuals experiencing mental health challenges or substance use disorders on a peer-to-peer basis.
Share personal experiences of recovery to provide hope, inspiration, and a sense of connection.
Foster a supportive and non-judgmental environment for individuals seeking assistance.
Collaborate with individuals to develop personalized recovery plans and goals.
Assist individuals in identifying strengths, resources, and coping mechanisms.
Provide emotional support and encouragement during challenging times.
Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals in the mental health and substance use systems.
Assist individuals in navigating and accessing community resources, healthcare services, and social support networks.
Conduct educational sessions and workshops to increase awareness about mental health and recovery.
Provide training to individuals on self-advocacy, coping skills, and other relevant topics.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of treatment plans.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of Peer Support interactions and progress.
Complete required documentation in a timely manner, adhering to organizational and regulatory standards.
Stay informed about current trends and best practices in Peer Support and recovery.
Participate in ongoing training and supervision to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
Lived experience with mental health challenges or substance use disorders and at least one year of sustained recovery.
Completion of a recognized Peer Support Specialist training program or certification.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Understanding of recovery-oriented principles and person-centered care.
Familiarity with local mental health and substance use resources.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
Time Commitment Minimum:
10-15 hours per week, during normal business hours (Monday - Friday between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. PST).
