Peer Support Specialist

Summary:
To work with Wellness Court (Adult Drug Court and Family Drug Court) participants needing ongoing support as they work towards a life of sobriety. This position provides a link between Wellness Court participants, Counselors, Court, Groups, Employment, and other essential Community Resources. The coaches will help clients fulfill their treatment plan, work on life skills, and establish a solid foundation for sustainable Recovery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Uses their personal experiences to develop meaningful and trusting relationships with clients, acting as a mentor.
- Works to build a community of both participants and community members that is supportive and conducive to patient growth and recovery.
- Links up with various community organizations and resources to provide additional support for participants, particularly as they transition from recovery back into the general community. This can include continued support, self-help groups, housing, job assistance, and additional treatment services.
- Handles some of the logistics of assisting with participants’ schedules around Wellness Court. This includes arranging or providing transportation for the participants, managing follow-up appointments, and working with Wellness Court requirements.
- Responsible for liaising between participants, families, the community, and care providers to ensure participants and families understand Wellness Court conditions and its process.
- Assists recovering participants in the independent use of community resources.
- Promotes Wellness Court within the community by attending meetings and conducting community outreach activities.
- All other duties as assigned by Wellness Court Coordinator.
Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- A current, valid Wisconsin driver’s license and able to obtain FCP insurance coverage.
- CPR certification
- Must be able to obtain Peer Support Specialist Certification within one year of hire.
- A working knowledge of the drug and alcohol treatment system
- Demonstrated commitment to the Recovery community.
- Good understanding and respect for everyone’s Recovery.
- Monday-Sunday (On call / flex hours – 40 work week)
- Minimum 2 years Sobriety
