About the Position:
Mental Health Minnesota is hiring two Peer Support Outreach Specialists to work as a team working with individuals riding the Blue/Green Lines of the Metro Transit train system. The Peer Support team will help connect individuals living with mental illness to support, care, treatment, housing and other needs to support them short-term and long-term. The Peer Support Outreach Specialists will be responsible for helping individuals obtain referrals to appropriate resources, assist with access to basic needs, support individuals with substance use or mental health treatment goals, and establish medical care through progressive engagement. The team of Peer Support Outreach Specialists will spend time on the trains and stations and work with partners, including the Metro Transit Police, to connect with individuals in need.
The ideal candidates for this role thrive in an unpredictable work environment and are willing to work partially outside year-round. These positions are temporarily funded through a grant through June 30, 2024, with the possibility of continuing after that date based on funding availability.
Primary Position Duties:
- Provide outreach services as part of a two-person Peer Support team to those experiencing mental illness and homelessness on Metro Transit Green/Blue Lines
- Connect individuals on trains and in stations to supportive services and help ensure their basic needs are met
- Coordinate with Metro Transit officers and other service providers to help clients achieve stability and address mental health needs and basic needs
- Accurately complete paperwork in a timely manner, including, case notes, data collection, and monthly reporting for assigned clients utilizing online database
- Attend routinely scheduled meetings for project outreach staff
Required Experience/Qualifications:
- In keeping with the established model of Peer Support provision, candidates must have lived mental health experience
- A minimum of one year of successful employment in homeless outreach is required
- Experience providing mental health or recovery Peer Support is highly desired, as are candidates who have completed Certified Peer Support Specialist training
- Knowledge of how to provide person centered care and use person centered language
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required, as is proficiency in use of internet, email, and Google Docs, and willingness to learn cloud-based organizational technology
Salary and Benefits: The starting wage for these positions is $25/hour, with a $500 new hire bonus.
