NUWAY is currently looking for candidates to work at our Minneapolis location in a Full-time capacity as a Peer Recovery Support Specialist. The ideal candidate would have past experience in mental health or substance abuse and be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist.

Position Overview
The Peer Recovery Support Specialist draws upon their personal growth experience to carry the message of hope and recovery to individuals who are currently enrolled in treatment services. Personal experience in substance use disorder recovery is required. By offering outreach, encouragement and support, the Peer Recovery Support Specialist cultivates and secures a connection with the enrolled individual, while teaching personal responsibility and serving as a mentor and role model. As part of their job duties, the Peer Recovery Support Specialist will be asked to provide direct services to individuals in the areas of outreach and engagement, personal assistance in the completion of daily living skills, linkage to community supports, and in-home services. It is also designed to assist clients identify and move “barriers” aside that prevent them from their recovery goals. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist is trained to empower clients that are engaged in non-residential treatment services. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist must be able to maintain client confidentiality in accordance with state and federal guidelines and HIPAA requirements.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be age 18 or older
- Must be able to pass Minnesota DHS background study
- Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds
- Personal experience in substance use disorder recovery
- Certified Peer Recovery Specialist
- Congenial, organized, and compassionate individual to work in cooperative team relationship within the agency and with external community organizations
- Innovative, driven, visionary, and reliable
- Must be flexible in schedule
- Must be able to demonstrate an ability to be responsive in an effective manner, while maintaining a warm and supportive atmosphere
- Possess maturity, patience, understanding and empathy with recovering individuals and work with a multidisciplinary team
- Physical Demands: Sitting for extended periods of time. Daily use of computer, phone, and other general office and treatment facility equipment. Lifting (max 25 pounds), able to climb stairs, minimal reaching, bending and stooping. Ability to effectively navigate program or office environment such as ascending and descending steps, passing through doorways and entrances, and accessing program/office facilities.
Preferred:
- Six months to a year with a working knowledge in the field of substance use disorder and/or mental health
- Possess good oral and written communications skills
- Conducts self in a professional manner
- Competent computer skills and able to effectively enter information in various systems
