Position: Marina Harbormaster/General Manager

Reports To: Regional Marina Manager

Location: Buffalo Harbor

Job Overview: As a key member of the Sun Life Marinas team, the Marina General Manager, reporting to the Chief of Marina Operations, is tasked with overseeing day-to-day operations at the assigned marina. The role prioritizes maintaining high standards of service, safety, and operational efficiency. The Marina General Manager is instrumental in driving excellence in customer experience, staff management, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and community engagement. The position demands a seasoned professional capable of fostering a positive work environment and implementing strategic initiatives aligned with Sun Life Marinas' commitment to exceptional boating experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Operational Leadership:
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the overall operation of the marina.
  • Oversee and manage all marina departments, including boat rentals, maintenance, customer service, and administrative functions.
  • Team Management:
  • Recruit, train, and supervise marina staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Set performance expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide coaching and support for staff development.
  • Customer Service Excellence:
  • Uphold and enhance customer service standards to ensure a positive and memorable experience for marina patrons.
  • Address customer inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally.
  • Financial Management:
  • Develop and manage the marina budget in collaboration with the Chief of Marina Operations.
  • Monitor financial performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement cost-effective measures.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure the marina's compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations governing marina operations.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and regulatory changes.
  • Facility Maintenance and Upkeep:
  • Oversee routine maintenance schedules and coordinate repairs to ensure the marina's facilities are well-maintained and meet safety standards.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to address issues promptly.
  • Community Engagement:
  • Foster positive relationships with the local community, businesses, and authorities.
  • Explore opportunities for community involvement and partnerships to enhance the marina's presence and reputation.
  • Environmental Stewardship:
  • Implement and support environmental sustainability initiatives within the marina.
  • Ensure adherence to waste management practices and environmental regulations.
  • Performance Metrics and Reporting:
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the marina's success.
  • Provide regular reports to the Chief of Marina Operations on operational performance and areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience in marina management or a similar leadership role within the marine industry.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices in marina operations.
  • Excellent organizational and financial management abilities.
  • Availability for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts is essential to meet the operational needs of the marina.

Physical Requirements: The Marina Harbormaster/General Manager position involves a range of physical activities essential to the effective management of marina operations. They should be able to:

  • Lift and Carry: Lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment or supplies occasionally.

  • Visual Acuity: Read documents, monitor operations, and assess facility conditions with or without corrective lenses. This may involve reading charts, manuals, and computer screens.
  • Hearing: Communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and through radio communication. This includes the ability to hear and respond to alarms or other auditory signals.
  • Working Inside: Perform administrative tasks, conduct meetings, and utilize computer systems within an office or administrative setting.
  • Sitting: Spend extended periods working at a desk, attending meetings, and performing tasks that require sitting.
  • Working Outside: The role involves exposure to various weather conditions, including working outdoors in heat, cold, or inclement weather, as well as exposure to sun, wind, and precipitation.
  • Field Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of marina facilities, which may involve walking, climbing, and navigating varied terrain.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
