Peer Mentor

 

EAC Network, a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 65,000 people in need through 100 programs across Long Island and NYC, seeks a Peer Mentor to work full time for a Queens Felony Drug Court Program.

The Peer Mentor position is a non-exempt position paying $18-20 per hour at 35 hours per week. The hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9:00AM-5:00PM and the office is located in Kew Gardens, NY. The role reports to Program Director. Candidates with lived experience are highly encouraged to apply!

Primary Purpose of Job:

The Peer Mentor for the Queens Felony Drug Court program is responsible for providing on-going culturally responsive and appropriate support for clients referred to the program by fostering positive relationships with program participants and facilitating groups.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in planning for services for clients, through face-to-face meetings and facilitation of group discussions.
  2. Conduct evidence-based interventions with participants and assist them in completing the required assignments.
  3. Meet with clients on an on-going, as needed basis on and off-site and be available via email and cell phone for support, advice, and guidance.
  4. Participate in team meetings.
  5. Participate in regularly scheduled on-going trainings and supervision.
  6. Assist in connecting clients to community-based support resources, clubhouses, and other ancillary services including escorting participants to appointments and treatment facilities.
  7. Maintain client charts and notes, update after each interaction with the client and have available for inspection by supervision at any time.
  8. Assist Case Managers in maintaining caseloads.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  1. High School diploma or educational equivalent required.
  2. Must have good communication skills, both oral and written.
  3. Ability to work cooperatively with multiple agencies.
  4. Knowledge of target population and area resources.
  5. Experience with group facilitation preferable.
  6. Experience using cognitive behavioral therapies, motivational interviewing and/or positive youth development preferable.
  7. Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, and email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.
