AddressResult of ServiceThe consultant will support ITS in enhancing the CPTM, particularly in providing substantive review and best practices advisory on enhancing multi-layered thematic and substantive peacekeeping content. The result of the service is a full set of reviewed and substantively revised Core Pre-Deployment Training Materials that is accessible to all military, police and civilian personnel preparing to deploy to UN peacekeeping missions. The set contains 30 lessons with supporting materials including learning activities, slides and guidance to the trainer. All materials will need to be substantively reviewed and analyzed for both subject matter content and clarity and prepared for roll-out to Member States. The CPTM serves as the essential knowledge all peacekeepers are required to have in order to deploy to UN peacekeeping missions. As the target audience—including soldiers and police officers from troop- and police- contributing countries—has varied reading and writing levels in English, the consultant will be required to apply a holistic approach to apply standards and requirements in order to ensure that complex and multi-layered content remains at a 12th grade level understandable by all deploying personnel, without losing content meaning, substance and key messages. Work LocationRemote Expected duration3 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesPart time job opening for 3 months. The consultant assignment will be home-based/remote except for a 14-day trip to Brindisi, Italy for a workshop. The consultant will be working with the Training Policy and Standards Team of the Integrated Training Service (ITS) in the Division of Policy, Training and Evaluation, Department of Peace Operations. The consultant is under the overall supervision of the Team Leader of the Training Policy and Standard Team. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in International Relations, Organisation Development and Change, Business Administration, Political Affairs, Communications, Education, Language and Learning, Social Sciences, Journalism or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. 15 years established experience in the area of peace and security, policy analysis, organizational development, or related thematic or subject-matter area and excellent writing and editing skills is required. Experience providing guidance and advice for major capacity building programmes, analyzing peace and security related concepts and theories across multiple areas of expertise, distilling concepts into a set of training or capacity development materials, and designing and developing training and facilitating peacekeeping training workshops is desirable.
