The Sr. Payroll Analyst is responsible for the set-up, research and resolution of employee employment taxes. The Sr. Payroll Analyst will be responsible for communication and customer service for tax issues and will act as a subject matter expert for these taxes.


The Sr. Payroll Analyst may manage payroll Tax specialists or analysts and will interact with other Human Capital Centers of Excellence (COE) and Finance COE’s throughout the day-to-day functions of the job, maintaining and promoting key internal and external relationships.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with other departments to gather demographic, compensation, and travel expenses monthly for executives in travel program
  • Maintaining accurate tax balances in payroll system based on employee travel validations
  • Partner with vendors to effectively manage flow of tax data while adhering to regulations; hold vendors responsible for their actions and responsibilities
  • Provide senior leaders with updated monthly travel records and compensation reports
  • Researching and resolving complex Payroll Tax issues, including but not limited to, stock and executive compensation
  • Manage year-end review for traveler programs, processing of W2’s and W2c’s
  • Research errors, determine root cause and make recommendations for on-going process improvements
  • Responsible for high quality results by communicating job expectations, planning, and monitoring job results
  • Manage Payroll Tax travel program team, workload and development
  • Collaborate with HRIS, Payroll Operation, Total Rewards and HR communities in the support of payroll operations and tax changes
  • Maintain effective relationships with key internal and external customers and vendors
  • Other projects as assigned

Relationships:

  • Reports to: Associate Director, Payroll Tax
  • Supervises: Payroll Tax Analyst and or Payroll Tax Specialist
  • Relationships: Business Unit Clients, employees, vendors

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years functional Payroll and multi-state Payroll tax experience
  • 1+ years people leader
  • Knowledge of Gross to Net Payroll and General Accounting Principles
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Word, Excel
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks with hard deadlines simultaneously
  • Proven project documentation discipline
  • Proven solid analytical, problem-solving skills, including query skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Multi-state tax experience
  • Solid understanding of how to build efficient operational processes
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees

Work Requirement:

Various hours as needed with increased need at quarter ends and year-end

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
