Job description

The Weld County Sheriff's Office is recruiting for Patrol deputies (Must be P.O.S.T. certified).This position requires competency in detecting and investigating criminal activity; enforcement of local, state, and federal laws; preparation of accurate reports to help in follow-up investigation, criminal and civil court, and in department investigations. All assignments require rotating shifts since the Sheriff's Office functions 24-hours a day, seven (7) days a week. Other duties may include serving civil papers, guarding prisoners, and assisting other agencies.Special assignments may require extended duties, training, and responsibilities, to include: Drug Task Force Field Evidence Technician Field Training Officer Investigations Strike Team K-9 Firearms Instructor Armorer Bomb Technician Mobile Command Bus operator Special Weapons and Tactics team Drone Operator Instructor in various disciplines Honor GuardA senior Patrol Deputy may be required to assume overall management responsibilities on occasions when circumstances do not allow the Sergeant to be present and no other arrangements can be made.$80,419.55 - $101,873.09 annually, plus benefits (see benefits tab on the job posting).MUST BE POST CERTIFIEDThe following are the steps for the hiring process:1. Drug Screen - scheduled by a Sheriff's Office Employee.7. Physical fitness examination - scheduled by a Sheriff's Office Employee.8. Hired.The following are the test dates:* Thursday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m. - PAT course and online testingWe have the following dates available for the PAT (must pass the online assessment first):PAT test dates:Tuesday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m.Tuesday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m.Tuesday, May 7 at 2:00 p.m.Tuesday, May 14 at 2:00 p.m.Tuesday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m.The following job duties are established to outline the basic duties and responsibilities of the above captioned position. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Remain calm and respond appropriately to emergency and threatening situations; protect self and others in threatening situations; able to physically subdue and control unruly and resisting individuals. Maintain Office proficiency standards in the use of firearms and other assigned equipment. Safely operate a County vehicle in normal and emergency conditions. Perform law enforcement duties requiring adequate psychological and physical condition. Successfully complete mandatory trainingParticipate in community service activities such as public service talks, PAL program, crime prevention activities, etc.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSTo be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:-Possess a High School Diploma or GED-Must currently be P.O.S.T. Certified-Must be at least 21 years of age-Possess, or obtain a valid Colorado Drivers' License at time of hire.Tattoos:1. Tattoos may be displayed while on duty or representing the agency unless considered controversial, disrespectful, or offensive.2. Tattoos, scarifications, and brandings on the face, or front of the neck, are not authorized while on duty or representing the agency. Modest hand tattoos are allowed, at the discretion of the Sheriff or designee. Modest neck tattoos not extending onto the front of the neck, beyond the carotid arteries, are allowed at the discretion of the Sheriff or designee.Piercings:1. Modest piercing are allowed.2. Nostril is okay; septum, bridge, nasal Lang & rhino piercings are not allowed.3. No more than one piercing is allowed to be displayed. Unusually large or obtrusive piercings are not allowed. Ring thickness of 18 gauge (1mm) or smaller and a ring diameter of 10mm or smaller is allowed. A stud size of 2mm or smaller is allowed.3. Ear piercings Sworn personnel, only females are allowed to wear one pair of post style earrings, one in each lobe, while on duty.Certificates/Licenses Required:Must have valid Colorado driver's license.Must successfully complete requirements for Colorado Police Officer Standard training certificate.Must pass various psychological, physical, and background examinations.Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Deputies must have full mobility and use of both arms and legs, and a full range of motion, to reach over their heads, reach below their knees, bend over or squat down, and to perform self-defense techniques taught by the Sheriff's Office. They are required to move quickly, climb stairs, and ladders, and be able to run to assist other officers when there is a call for assistance. They must have the ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time. The Deputy must occasionally lift and/or move more than 150 pounds and display enough strength to remove an average human being from a hazardous area or to overcome and restrain a combative or resistive subject of average ability. Deputies must be able to meet the fitness standards, as prescribed by the Sheriff's Office. Specific vision abilities, and/or corrected vision abilities required, including dual vision, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, night vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Color vision essential to distinguish description of vehicles, suspects, victims, and other relevant objects. Visual skills enabling use of firearm, office, and field equipment. Sensory capabilities to detect criminal/hazardous situations. Dual hearing is required. Deputies are required to listen to multiple audio inputs simultaneously, such as portable radio conversations, conversations, sounds related to criminal or suspicious activity, alarms, etc.WORK ENVIRONMENT:While performing the duties of this job, a Deputy works indoors and outdoors in rural and urban environments. Occasionally, the environments consist of uneven ground, high or precarious places, unlighted areas, or contain potentially dangerous conditions or items. Inclement weather conditions are frequently encountered, and a Deputy will be required to drive, handle calls for service, and move between their vehicle and buildings.
