Patient Service Representative with MA experience
Reports to Billing Manager
Job Description
Responsible for accurate and complete patient accounts based on departmental protocol, policies and procedures, and compliance with regulatory agencies, pre-registration and registration functions. Ensure all insurance requirements are met prior to patients’ arrival, and inform patients of their financial liability. Arranges payment options with the patients and screens patients for government funding sources. This position has high customer service with our payers and physicians by phone and requires excellent customer service skills. This position completes all preliminary work.
Duties and Responsibilities
∙ Set up new patient accounts
∙ Investigation, analysis & follow-up for collection of overdue accounts
∙ Initiate & respond to telephone inquiries from clients, patients, and others
∙ Request all hospital information for the doctor
∙ Verify all private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid for eligibility
∙ Explain various health insurance plans and billing to patients
∙ Update patient’s demographic and financial information
∙ Respond to patients questions and provide directions to specified areas
∙ Complete all forms and documents for doctor and patients
∙ Make calls for patients to make appointments with other doctors, transportation, nursing homes and healthcare providers
∙ Verify daily schedule
∙ Collections, all payments from patients
∙ Interview new patients and collect all information needed for the office
∙ Triage telephone calls for nurses and doctor
∙ Referrals for appointments to other doctors, calling insurance company for referral numbers and authorization
∙ Call other doctors offices for our referrals and authorization
∙ Request authorization from insurance for all chemo, injections, labs and any other procedures done in our office
∙ Verify all charge tickets
∙ Call nursing homes to verify how they are billing Medicare patients
∙ Balance all moneys collected at end of day, and turn in deposit to designated person
∙ Initial deposit calendar on a daily basis according to manual procedures guidelines
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements
· Two to five years experience working in hospital access, physician office or billing and collections or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
· Knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles
· Administrative Experience as an MA is a huge plus

∙ Skill to effectively negotiate with patients, guarantors & other parties for payment of claims
∙ Knowledge of medical professional fee billing
∙ Skill to accurately audit patient ledgers
∙ Skill to read & comprehend complex documents & take appropriate action
∙ Skill to organize & prioritize workload & meet deadlines
∙ Problem solving skills
∙ Skill to perform computer & data entry functions
∙ Calculator by touch
Working Conditions
∙ Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $9.25 - $12.00 per hour
