Job Title: Patient Care Technician- Per Diem/Nights
Job Summary: Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs various duties rendering physical and supportive care and treatment to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients within the department. Safely manages the environment of care while providing services. Functions within departmental goals and policies and is expected to adhere to the appropriate standards of care. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.
Essential Functions:
- Answer patient call signals, signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine patients' needs.
- Provide information such as directions, visiting hours, or patient status information.
- Change bed linens or make beds, assist with cleaning of incontinent patients and assessing skin integrity.
- Clean and sanitize patient cables, strip beds and place in blue bags, clean drawers no supplies, no linen in drawers.
- Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff. Receive and route messages or documents, such as laboratory results, to appropriate staff.
- Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.
- Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members. Utilizes white boards for patient communication.
- Collaborates across disciplines to assist in coordination of Patient Care, including but not limited to patient transfer, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.
- Assist medical and nursing staff with direct and indirect Patient Care. Transporting patients to rooms, departments and procedure areas.
- Unit stock and maintenance duties as established by the department.
- Assist in daily checks of equipment in the department and assure its function and replacement status.
- Basic unit maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, and cabinets free from unnecessary clutter. Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair
- Transport specimens, laboratory items, or pharmacy items, ensuring proper documentation and delivery to authorized personnel.
- Turn or reposition bedridden patients.
- Review patients' dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences to ensure patient receives appropriate diet.
- Accurately obtains and records in EMR (Electronic Medical Record) results of glucose monitoring and ACT Plus analyzer. Accurately runs controls on glucometer and ACT Plus analyzers and documents QC (Quality Control) appropriately. Ensures that control bottles and test cartridges are dated accurately.
- Performs tasks delegated timely and documents such in a timely and accurate manner.
- Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
- Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) when communicating with oncoming shift, physician communication and giving report to ancillary or other nursing services.
- Performs in the unit secretary role as needed.
- Performs the duties of a patient sitter as needed.
- Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.
- Completes and attends monthly training assigned.
- May float to other areas of the hospital as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Experience:

- A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within health care.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Licensure/Certifications
- CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) or EMS (Emergency Medical Services) certification meeting requirements for the state of employment, or sufficient equivalent experience
- BLS (Basic Life Support) from AHA (American Heart Association) required.
