Empire Cake, a popular gourmet American-style bakery in Chelsea, is seeking qualified candidates for a Full-time Pastry Assistant.
The Pastry Assistant is responsible for carrying out operations and productions that take place in the kitchen such as scaling recipes, mixing, portioning, and baking according to signature recipes. Our menu including cookies, brownies, bars, Swiss rolls and a variety of snack cakes.
KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Scaling all recipes and follow procedures
- Follow baking instructions and is confident with usage of large ovens
- Must be able to prioritize and finish all tasks assigned for the daily baking. Work independently in those moments when the supervisors are not immediately available
- Receive stock and store food in designated containers and storage areas in an organized and timely manner
- Inform supervisors when any equipment is not working properly and anticipate when food supplies are getting low
- Keeps a clean workstation and assist in soft cleaning of the kitchen
- Perform other related duties as assigned based on evolving business needs
- Maintaining the kitchen production process to maintain the workplace safe and hygienic for all employees.
SKILLS
- Be detail oriented, passionate about high quality, able to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task
- Ability to problem solve and clearly communicate
- Quick learner and ability to follow recipes strictly
- NYC Food Handler’s Certificate preferred food sanitary safety practice/procedure knowledge
- Relevant prior experience as a baker is required
- Capable of working in a fast-paced, production environment.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- A High School diploma or GED certificate is a plus
- Completion of a Culinary School program or apprenticeship preferred
- 1-2 years of pastry-making relevant experience
- The ability to stand for long periods of time
- Able to lift 50lbs
- Basic math skills
- Great attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills
- Able to work a flexible schedule, especially during the holidays
- Maintain a clean environment and keeping the area organized and free of clutter
- Thoroughly follow company procedures according to health and safety standards
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and procedures
Pay: By the hour / Range based on experience. Starting from $18.00
