Lake Roland is seeking a responsible, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to serve as a Park Ranger Assistant. This is a part-time role that requires availability on weekends and holidays.
Applicants must be:
- Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
- Willing and able to walk long distances while patrolling park and managing trash and debris clean-up.
- Comfortable working with and speaking to the public.
- Comfortable presenting environmental based lessons and programing.
- Comfortable caring for and handling a range of animal ambassadors for use in educational programs. This may include reptiles, amphibians, insects and mammals.
Job related tasks will include, but not be limited to:
- Providing support to full-time staff with park operations, including but not limited to collection and disposal of garbage, general tidying of buildings, trails and green spaces, and implementation of park rules and regulations.
- Tending to animal ambassadors residing in the nature center, completing daily animal care tasks including feeding, cleaning animal enclosures, and providing enrichment to the animals.
- Providing evidence-based interpretation of natural observations in the park and nature center, creating opportunities for the public to engage with the natural environment and walk away with increased awareness and interest in the local ecosystem.
- Representing the park in interactions with the public, maintaining respectful, humane, and cordial relations with visitors.
- Implementing park programs and provide support as needed during special events.
- Creating opportunities for volunteer and public participation in environmental stewardship.
- Creating flyers and other documents in Canva to promote programs, provide interpretation of displays, and increase accessibility
- Completing general office tasks: copying, folding, laminating, filing, organizing.
